Help: New 6870 bricked?

My monitor displays "Video Cable Connected?" over a blank screen when I have my brand new Gigabyte HD6870 installed.

Specs:
Mobo: Gigabyte 890GPA-UDH3
Power: Seasonic 550 watts
RAM: 8 Gb (4x 2Gb) Gskill
CPU: Phenom II, X3 720 Black Edition
OS: Windows 7, Home Premium

The Mobo has an embedded HD4290 graphics chip. I was thinking a move to the HD6870 would show some improvement. The monitor ran fine through the mobo graphics.

I shut everything down and installed the new 6870. I plugged the monitor into the 6870. Power up, and it acts as if the monitor's input is not plugged in.

This is what I've tried:
Cycled power, cycled monitor power. No change.
Checked the 6870's fan: it's spinning.
Plugged the monitor into the mobo video output. Still dead ("Video Cable Connected?").
Swapped out a new monitor. All the same. (It's not the monitor.)

Next, I took out the 6870 and reconnected the original monitor to the mobo video. All is good. (Well, as good as it gets when your new 6870 is sitting on the floor and you're stuck with mobo graphics.)

Any help for me out there? What else can I do to troubleshoot?

Go into your bios and disable the onboard video. You may have to take out the 6870 for your onboard to work again.

Yeah, the 6870 is out right now, so my machine is running through the onboard graphics.

I thought about disabling the mobo graphics before I posted. What happens if that doesn't fix the issue? Will I then be stuck with no on board graphics if the 6870 still doesn't work and I have it removed? Booting into a blank screen because I disabled the onboard chip isn't something I want to run and do.

Are there any ways to reverse that choice if the only graphics are the mobo?

Yep, just reset CMOS either by battery or jumper if it comes to that. Might want to glance over all your settings just so you know what to set if you do have to do that.

Okay, yeah, I figured if all failed, the CMOS jumper reset would save me. That's what I had to do. I wiped out all my settings. My lovely little Phenom II x3 (unlocked, volted, overclocked), back to bog-standard. My 8 Gb of G.Skill with their delicate little TsC settings or whatnot all nurtured to a higher level, wiped. Then you know what happened? I thought maybe I should try the OTHER DVI output on my new HD6870. Presto magicko, all worked.

D'OH!!! Next time, use the OTHER output before you wipe out your CMOS. What a dolt.

I feel I should return the card, get a refund, and never open a case or mod a bios again.

Oh, the 6870 is just a _tad_ better than the IGP 4250!!!

Doesn't most MB's have an option to save all current settings to a profile? That's what I've been doing anyway, so whenever the settings get reset for whatever reason I just reload the profile and get it all back.

Lol, I reset my CMOS at least once a week. Get used to it
