I'm hoping someone much smarter than me can help me with an issue i'm facing.

Scenario: I'm trying to connect a SATA HD to the blue ports (Marvell controller) and use it in a non-RAID setup (i.e. just a plain jane straight SATA config).

Setup:
BX2 with the latest bios (dated Jan 14.08, 2256)
Q6600
HD 1 connected to the black port with Vista installed
HD 2 connected to the blue port

Problem:
The board POSTs, gets to the Marvell controller which scans the ports and detects HD 2. The Marvell screen continues and then the screen goes blank and hangs with a flashing cursor in the upper left hand corner.
If I unplug HD 2 the system boots into Vista normally.

What I've tried with no success:
Installed Vista on HD 1
Installed Vista with SP1 on HD 1
Installed XP SP2 on HD 1
Plugged HD 2 into the other 2 blue ports
Plugged a different HD (call it HD 3) into the blue ports
Changed the SATA mode from AHCPI to IDE
Disabled the secondary SATA controller (don't ask me..that's what Intel told me to do)
Checked device manager - none of the components are unknown or have an exclamation mark.

I'm at my wits end trying to plug another HD into this block of ports :(

what is your HD boot order ?

check in the BIOS for the HD boot order

also check the controller boot order

the boot order is the dvd drive, then my boot OS hd (HD 1 in my example).

The problem is getting a second HD plugged into the blue ports to work in a non-RAID setup to be used as a data storage HD (i.e. not a boot OS).

have u tried using HD2 in the black SATA ?

seems like the system is booting from HD2

You did install the Marvell drivers, right?
Might be a good idea to flash to latest BIOS also. I checked over the
weekend they have a 1/08 update 2813.
