I have a Maxtor 40 gig hard drive that I pulled from my bosses machine because it has a bad couple of blocks on it.

I just picked up an external usb 2.0 / firewire case. Is there a way to reformat it so windows ingores those two blocks and I can use it for a backup / storage drive ? Or do I keep useing it as a 2lb paper weight ?

You can download a utility from Maxtor's website that runs from a bootable floppy. You can perform many disk maintenance functions, including a full format (ie, 1 and 0ing the entire drive...takes a while.) This might be able to fix the problem you have.
