Help needed - system behaving wierdly

It all started out of the blue a while ago, my system was rock stable until the last 48 hours. The problem started when my system blackscreened and hanged on me out of the blue and after i restarted it, it wouldnt boot. The cdrom light would flash followed by the hdd light for a half second before the system just sat there doing nothing. I removed the CMOS batt and tried rebooting, sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt. Sometimes for some odd reason, i take off my HSF and take off my Proc and put it back in and after i do that it works for some odd reason. Oh and sometimes, i do nothing but just turn it on and if it doesnt work, i turn it off and turn it on again *repeat like 5 times or something* and then it will work. Very odd.

Here are my specs
p4 2.4B C1 O/Cd to 2808 @ 1.525V Prime95 stable for abt 30mins to 1 hour *i never go longer*
512MB DDR 400 Corsair XMS 3200 running at 390mhz async @ 2.7V VDimm
ASUS P4PE bios version 1007
ATI Radeon 9500Pro running Cat 4.6
WD 800JBB hdd

Anyone have any ideas ?
My guess is a CMOS batt ?

try and get on...

use orignal boot.ini ?

try running at stock speeds ?

maybe you need to run an adaware/virus scan.

when you got the blue screen of death did it say if it was a driver problem or anything else?

sometimes is get a BSOD and it says "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA"

i dunno how thats possible, LMAO, but it happens

Drop your processor back to stock speeds and see if it still does that. It sounds like your mem may also be an issue here. Try running memtest if you are able to boot up!

i used to be able to take out the proc and put it back in and the system would boot fine for a while then crash randomly and fail to boot. Now it wont even boot. It just turns on, cdrom seeks and it does nothing more, blank screen. Its not the CMOS because i just bought a new CMOS. I am now going to test the proc and ram on another comp.

I have had this happen before on my ancient celly, it was the processor not seating well in the socket in my case.

get a BSOD and it says "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_PAGED_AREA"

that error is still making my computer unusable

The boot problem almost sounds like the thermal protection is shutting down the pc to prevent the proc from going supernova.

What kind of thermal paste are you using on your proc?

Are you making sure that you have the correct amount of paste on the core to ensure that your HSF makes good contact?

^ Especially important since you are regularly removing the chip and HSF.

Also, run memtest.

Also, try swapping out the PS if you can.

Also, make sure all your fans are spinning especially the HSF.

the paste - arctic silver 3
its def not thermal throttling because even if it is, the system wont hang and not boot
done PSU swap, im confident my memory *looks at corsair xms* is fine

i have narrowed it down to just the mobo or the peripherals
so this makes it look like mobo

Not thermal throttling, thermal protection.

That is where the PC will shut down if certain conditions exist.
-No fan plugged into the cpu fan header
-Fan on cpu not turning

thanks guys i fixed it
it is indeed a faulty board, i tested it and i replaced the board with a p4p800SE and its all good now, even got an extra 100mhz+ of stable overclock

the page fault error is related to memory

I just switched to a PCchips mobo and the page fault problem went away along with the other issues I was having using the same ram now so it was the mobo.
