Help needed for possible memory problem!!!

I plugged in my 40GB iPod last night, and as Windows XP entered the autodetect mode for the hardware, my computer spontaneously restarted. It then would not load Windows, sitting with a black screen for about 15 minutes. I then tried to start in safe mode, but it froze at the file:

It sat like this for several minutes.
I then commenced a repair installation of Windows, which seemed to go well, except that I got the error that my Geforce 4600 Driver was not digitally signed, which I've never gotten before. I skipped that, which didn't seem to be a problem, and the installation continued until completion.
Unfortunately, on rebooting, I got a blue screen of death with this message:
A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

This troubles me, leading me to believe that this is memory problem. I have run some diagnostics on my memory with no ill results. Also, the

F: is my secondary hard drive, which has Windows XP installed on it. It is set up in a slave configuration with C:, the master. F: has Windows installed because I just repaired my C: drive from a virus and used that to back up files and such.

The one problem is that I leave on Monday for California, and I need to transfer my files to my laptop, which is what I was going to do with my iPod. Any help would be appreciated, also I have other computers that I can install the hard drives in, if that would be something I should do. Thank you very much, I await your responses.

hm... I have no idea wha an ipod is, kind of a noob. the blue screen you described I got when I replaced my motherboard, I had to reformat and reinstall windows. Useually this message pops up when a major hardware change is made. Might be something else but I'm really tired and don't feel like thinking. hoped I helped in the least.
 
and iPOD is a mp3 player from apple, that is SICK, More importanly, it sounds like swapping the drives wouln't do alot, because it seems to be contained problem. Was teh ipod ever used before? it might have been a dirty apple which would suck. See if swapping works for a temp sit, then if you can get the info from the drives simply reformat them.
 
Yes, I've used the iPod before, but it was previous to my recent reformat. I don't know it that has an impact on it or not.

BTW: I was running SP2, if that would have an impact on it.
 
Umm, yeah. I think that makes a huge difference. Report that bug to MS, quick.

Afterwards, reinstall your OS with SP1 and enjoy your "sick" mp3 player.
