I had a 13900K go tits up on me, refunded by Intel and I picked up a 12900Kf at 250 and been running that ever since. Given the fact that I'm ecosystem locked and still on DDR4 ... and cash strapped I need some BIOS configuration help. Picked up a 14700Kf brand new for 295. What are the setting I have to configure to make sure it doesn't nuke itself? Even with all the Intel BIOS mitigations in place

I'm looking doing:
1. Undervolting in the FIVR Configuration, VR Offset to keep it cool and get max clocks while remaining well under TJMAX
2. Locking core speeds based on core quality
3. Stability testing

The techs I have seen managed to get some impressive gains in stability, core temps and sustained FPS doing the above.

It's like an +11% Single Core upgrade, possible +23% on the Multicore for staying in the Intel ecosystem.

Buying a totally new system is out of the question for me right now.

Anything else I need to be aware of for settings to make sure it works without issue?

Try and find "IA VR voltage Limit" and/or "CPU Core voltage caps"

Intel says 1.55 is fine. So 1.45 is an additional safety margin.

Asus needs me to put 1450 as a value for max 1.450 vcore.
Set it as a safeguard for wonky vrms and bad bios settings.

CEP ... enabled means 90% of OC and undervolting tactics get blocked - But it is good for longevity...
Do your due diligence before turning it off.
I think one can solely rely on the hard vcore limit, as mentioned above.

Now go on and try whatever you want.

Don´t blame me for degrading it anyway (after a year or two)

If it degrades, I will have a 5 year warranty for that so I'm not worried. Thank you for the advice.

14700KF installed, flawless upgrade. Did some undervolting. Need to monitor my temps and run some benchmarks, however, It doesn't currently seem any hotter than the 12900KF it replaced. Granted I set it's upper and lower limits for power draw to 175 Watts. Runs cool, I set my 280 MM Push pull to a slightly more aggressive fan curve that I don't even notice. Played maybe 6-8 hours of games that are more CPU intensive. It is faster, more fluid. Benches where it's supposed to be +11 on the Single Thread and only about +20% on the Multicore gains over the 12900KF. I will play around with it more as time permits. Overall, it's a solid upgrade.

Just grabbed one of these as well with a Z790 board so this thread will help me get it setup thanks. Haven't had an Intel since the 6950X so looking for good advice on safe settings so it lasts as long as possible.

Don't laugh but I went through the same very recently and feel like a dinosaur / deer in the headlights despite decades of pc building experience. 14700k on a Aorus Elite AX Z790, ram in this case was some Team Expert ddr5 6000 1.35v.

I found between these two reddit posts a combination of settings that got me started:

https://www.reddit.com/r/overclocki...700k_undervolting_im_a_noob_any_advice_would/
https://www.reddit.com/r/gigabytegaming/comments/1ej9srt/my_settings_for_i714700k_on_gigabyte_z790/

After going through all of this, realized how much I do not miss the "extreme tweaking" lifestyle of yesteryear. There's a lot of youtube videos too, but for some reason the posters all seem to have thick accents or go into way too much detail that I just tune out.
