Help need upgrade my Wireless Router ...

I recently received an upgrade from Time Warner to 50MB down and 5MB up. After receiving the new cable modem I hardwired to one of my laptops and see that I am indeed receiving these levels, actually a little better at 59MB down and 5.8MB up.

I then connected my current wireless router and am getting about 19MB down and 3.5MB up. I'm using an older Linksys wireless G router (802.11b/g) that states can handle speeds up to 54Mbps. It's the WRT54GL model.

I understand that there will be loss when going from hardwire to wireless but I'd like to improve upon the wireless performance if possible due to most of our activities are performed wireless these days.

I haven't kept up on wireless router technologies over the years and would appreciate some help identifying a model that will perform better with my recent upgraded speed.

Thanks!

Any other requirements?

I'm just looking to upgrade my current router to another if it would provide better up and down speeds. I'd probably like to stay in the 2.4ghz relm as most of the devices I have would probably not be compatible with 5ghz. Unless dual band would help in this situation.

If you're going for 11ac ARM-based platforms I'd advice you to go for Marvell which leaves you to the Linksys models (overpriced) or the Turris Omnia.

Might be an option if you can find HW Rev B1 and not A1. (Mediatek platform)

You probably want to go for Asus if you want a 11AC router with decent vendor support.
Asus RT-AC68U is kinda good for what it is....

That said, the TP-Link will do just fine on your connection.

The reason I'm mentioning these are simply because they have some kind of decent open source 3rd party support when the model gets EoL. (Broadcom platforms have non-existant, that includes those two Netgear models you linked to and the Asus model.)
