Hey guys just recently baught the new Conan MMO and it runs like crap on my pc lol .

Ill post the specs of my pc as it stands atm and if you guys could post what i would need to change to get it to run smoothly on medium / high resolution.

Current PC spec :

2GB Corsair DDR2 memory
2.40 GHz Pentium duel core processor
1024mb Nvidea GeForce 7950 GX2
GIGABYTE GBB36X
320GIG Hytachi HD
650W power supply

OK YOUR HELP ON THIS GUYS WOULD BE MOST APPRECIATED :D

Simply upgrading to a 8800GTS 512MB or better (9800GTX, 9800GX2) should be plenty.

Your video card is the main culprit. Get an 8800GT or above. Also, another 1GB of RAM (you might have to add 2GB but won'tt be able to utilize on 32bit OS) would help.

I run AoC on a e6600, 3 GB, 8800GT, Vista Ultimate 32

With default HIGH settings, Bloom ON, I get 40+FPS on average (rarely dipping below) and experience very few performance issues. You need to make sure you shut down ALL non-essential background processes as well (virus scanner, Itunes, etc).

AoC is a great game and worth the upgrades!

cool :) yer ive sort of played a bit but with the REALLY low textures and evrything im getting atm it annoys me so thought i would leave it until i can get the best out of it.

Is it worth eventually upgrading to a Quad core when i get a bit of extra cash?

Would the 8800 GFX card work with my current mobo?

Which OS have a 64-bit architecture then? Im currently running on XP Prof.

Sorry about all the questions havnt upgraded for about 2 years am lagging behind a bit lol :D

Upgrade to quadcore? Maybe, what board do you have? The model should start with a GA-*-*. Is it the GA-P965-DS3?

Which model Pentium Dual Core is that?

Yes, the 8800GTS 512MB should work on your board, but to be sure, let us know which exact board you have. GBB36X is the model for a specific controller on the board, but I'm not sure if more than one board use that controller.

If you want to move to 64-bit, Vista Home Premium 64-bit would be better than XP 64-bit due to support. However, make sure your older peripherals and software are compatible (make sure printer/scanner has drivers, etc).

Board: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. 965P-DQ6

would that be the model number? Used Belarc to find out for me.

Yah, thats it. So yah, the card would work great on that board.

The quadcore upgrade would only be worth it if you'll be running anything that takes advantage of multi-core CPUs (heavy multi-tasking, media encoding/decoding, running VMs, etc).

Your board -- if it's indeed the GA-965P-DQ6 -- can support up to DDR2 800 RAM. You'll be better served by buying a 2GB or 4GB dual-channel kit of that speed.

Also, since 32-bit operating systems are limited to a total of 4GB of system memory -- not only RAM, but memory used by other components, such as the video card -- you won't have full access of all of your RAM. You may have anywhere between 2.8GB and 3.5GB of "usable" RAM, based on which video card you end up using.

cool thanks for the help guys :D

Also wile im on it lol sorry about this. Would it be worth upgrading my current RAM

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...ame=Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-5400C4 TwinX (2x1GB)

get an extra 2 GIG of it to make 4 GIG

ORRR

get new 4 GIG worth of this

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...5 1066MHz Dual Channel Kit (BL2KIT12864AL1065)

Or will i not notice alot of difference?

If you're going to use a 32-Bit OS (XP Pro or Home or Vista 32 bit) then you're system will only recognize and use 3.25 gb. If you upgrade to a 64-Bit OS, 4GB of RAM is optimal. If not, then don't waste your money on a whole new 4GB kit, just throw another 1 GB of the same speed RAM that you currently have and you should be good.

Edit: it appears I was beaten to the response... I won't get those 5 minutes back lol.

However, most likely his current RAM is no faster than DDR2 667, which if he doesn't overclock his Q6600, no sense in buying a new kit of DDR2 800 right?

Run CPUZ or BelArc to find out what your current RAM speed is. Even with DDR2-667, you can OC that Q6600 to 3Ghz. I don't think you need more RAM right now, though, so its up to you. I'd go with the vidcard upgrade first, unless you want to wait for the new cards coming out in a month or two.

I want to get 3GB or RAM tho the website im going to order from only does it in sets of 2, which is a pain in the ass.

Im tryin to find wer it says what speed my RAM is runnign at. hmm i really think that t is 2 GB of 667 though tbh. Why would 3GB of that not be good enuff?

I could upgrade to the 800 ones u guys said if it would make a massive differance.

P.S. actually come to think of it it could be 800mHz pah i need to find this out :p

You would only benefit from the DDR2 800 if you planned on overclocking your Q6600 really high. Chances are your RAM is DDR2 667, and like enginurd said will take your Q6600 up to 3 ghz, but if you don't plan on overclocking don't plan on upgrading to a new speed of RAM, you won't notice a difference. However, if you upgraded to 1 more gig of your current RAM speed, it may make a difference, but not too much.

ahh rite ok thanks for the advice guys new g card it is then :p all i want is for the game to be able to run smooothly with decent graphics thought the RAM might have made a difference to the way it performed. :p

RAM performs best in dual channel mode with matched pairs -- mainly, using either two or four sticks of RAM. However, overclocking the processor could potentially cause some instability with the motherboards MCH, especially when all four RAM slots are used up.

If you aren't planning on a major overclock, follow enginurd's advice and stick with the RAM you already have. If you want the better performance that more RAM (may) provide, it would be cheaper for you to buy a new 4GB kit and just sell the 2GB kit to someone (locally) who may need it.

Ok used CPU-Z to find out which RAM i am running. It appears i am running

2GB DDR2 PC2-6400 (400MHz)

Part number: CM2X1024-6400C4

Hmm now this has got me consufued i assumed that the 6400 range ran at 800MHz or is that both of them paired together?

To make matters worse i cannot find this memory in stock anywere only

Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C4 TwinX (2x1GB)

Is this the same stuff??

If the 2 extra sticks are put in a separate channel than the first two, they don't need to be the same model as your original models. Only memory in the same channel needs to be the same.

You may want to look at your motherboard manual/online support for the diagram explaining how your DIMM slots are set for dual channel. Some motherboards are different than others.

My best advice regarding that.

EDIT: That first sentance was a little rough, a better explanation would be, you can have 2x1 GB [RAM TYPE 1] in Channel A, and 2x1 GB [RAM TYPE 2] in Channel B. That will allow it to still run in dual channel.

Sort of understand what you are saying channel 1 & 3 and 2 & 4 are dual.

Currently have memory in 1 & 3. Though running CPUZ what has confused me is that it shows the memory is runing at 400Mhz for each stick of RAM.

Though the PC2 6400 im looking at on the website is showing that they run at 800MHz.

That is also 6400C4 like mine though the model number at the beginning is not the same.

Is this basically saying 2GB of the stuff runs at 800MHz basically meaning they run at 400MHz each?

If that is the case then i an go ahead and get an extra 2GB no problem.

Not quite, the memory is Double Data Rate (DDR) so therefore it's 400mhz x 2. Because it sends and receives data on the bus simultaneously. So DDR2 800 is 400 mhz x2, so the new memory that you're looking at will work, just slide it in Dimm 2 and Dimm 4 if that's what your mobo requires.

But please keep in mind when using a 32 bit OS, you're computer won't recognize it all. Sooo don't freak out.

Yer ah know unfortunatley you can only buy it in 2 GIG from this online store so meh :p

Thanks for all your help :)
