Hello all.
I recently bought an old computer from some yard sale, with the knowlege that it was broken, for the grand sum of two dollars. Yesterday, I opened the case, and found..... 2 cpus, dual celeron (socket 370), sitting on top of an Abit BP6 board, and I was hoping for the best when I powered up the machine. Upon plugging in the power, the machine started without the press of a button, not a great sign in my opinion. The, with no numlock check to the keyboard, and no signal to the monitor, after a few seconds the machine turned off. I tried again, replacing the videocard, ram, and psu with ones that i knew worked, but I reached the same result. In desparation, I swapped out the celeron 466?- i think.. with a spare, workin celeron 500. The machine still did not show any other signs of life other than fans spinning on the CPU and PSU. I searched google, and found that this baord is known to have bad capacitors :( , so I took a look for signs of leaking/swelling. Most of the caps, Jackcon and some other brand, were swelling and leaking from the top. I examined the board and found no electrolyte on it, so I am hoping the board can be recapped. :confused: Thank you all, sorry for the long boring post. I figured I would get this out of the way, to give you guys all the info I could. Any suggestions,starting points, or tips?- Mark McLean :)
 
Balls...so I could have had my IC7 repaired instead. Damn. :(

But for $12, you have a dually rig that you could run some P3s on (if you wanna add in new procs). Not bad at all.
 
Actually, im a tard. They only charge the $10 if you dont have an invoice for the board.
 
I'm sure that I am going to have to pay something, as I'm not the original owner, but for $10, this can't be beat. I'm contacting abit asap. Thanks for all the help.- Mark
