I installed the Cat 4.9's, but they caused doom 3 to stop working, as well as causing 2d performance to drop to where I can see redraws happening. I uninstalled them and reinstalled the 4.7, but the behavior continues. Help!
 
very odd

100% positive you removed ALL traces of the driver? If so then a format might be worth a go...
 
uninstall them again in safe mode... then delete the ati directory reboot then install the new 4.9 drivers and should fix the problem.
