I am trying to help my buddy build a watercooling setup. I will be doing my first build and have done research, but I am using only the best parts. He cant spend as much and is trying to compremise on parts, yet I am not familiar with the ones that he has sent to me. If someone more knowledgable then I could take a look I would appreciate it. BTW, price is very rigid and can pretty much only be cheaper (well a few bucks wont matter). Here is what he sent me.

get 1/2" tubing, 6 feet is more than enough- measure twice and cut once.

get the clamps from home depot, $0.20 each.
u need 2 clamps for radiator, 2 for pump, 2 for block.

Plus clamps/fluid/additive(s) and shipping. Some people run Masterkleer without clamps. That's your call. There's no real reason not to get 10' if you're ordering it from dangerden. <10' costs 0.59/foot. >=10' costs 0.49/foot. So that extra 4' costs you an extra 0.40 (actually 0.32 after coupon). And then you've got extra.

That's a lot more pump than the MAG- II LE, and a bigger radiator if you wnat to do the GPU or SLI in the future. If you really want to stick with a 120 rad, you can trim the price a little more.

Petras kits use pretty well matched components, give you good hose clamps, tubing and all the accessories you need. If you want a recommendation for a custom kit...

Mag II LE : 40$
Swiftech MCW6002 if you can find it : $35
Swiftech Apogee if you cant : $45-50 (yea there's a lot of apogee hate but it is a good low restriction block)
Swiftech MCR120 or Black Ice Pro Radiator : $25-30 (It seems you want a single 120 which is fine for just cpu)
7/16" Masterkleer tubing + Hose Clamps from McMasterCarr - 15$
Fillport + Gel Stuff from Petra - 15-20$


Total : ~150$


If you want to spend more change the pump to the DDC, and the block to the AquaXtreme MP-01 or the Storm. Dont change the pump and not the block though as the blocks I recommended wont see much improvement from a stronger pump. The Mag II LE is a very small pump and is very quiet, using the gel stuff from Petra you wont be able to hear a thing at all. The BIP and Swiftech radiators actually perform a bit better than the newer GTS series, and are cheaper too, just dont look as nice.

www.mcmastercarr.com caries MasterKleer tubing ($0.38 a foot) and "worm drive" hose clamps ($4.50 per 10). Catalog #'s 5388K17 & 5233K44. You could also browse around other things at McMaster you can get cheap neoprene to put around your case (those noise dampening kits basically) and all sorts of anti vibration mounting screws. Just a whole bunch of stuff.

The XFLOWS are great. First allowed me to fit a triple rad inside a 16" mid tower case. In terms of performance bought me another 100 mhz out of my 3200 winnie, up to 2700 mhz. Thinking about it from an overall system perspetive makes sense. They have lower pressure drop, this increases flow, so in turn block performance increases. I'm sold on the benefits of XFLOW.
 
dual pass offers better performance. overclocking and gaining 200mhz because of a radiator doesnt necessarily means it is better. i used to have BIX xflow and changed to GTS dual pass, and i achieved better temperature while my clock speed stays the same. does it mean xflow is better than dual pass?

edit: Honestly, I can't say much firsthand. The important thing is, whichever radiator he chooses, the price can stay a good deal lower than the kit he first posted.
 
Wow, thanks a lot for the info guys. Lots of good ideas. I recommended him the danger den deal bc he will be getting a nice pump for cheap which allows him to upgrade. But I gave him the link cause u guys had other good options also. Price is the biggest factor tho and after all he is only cooling the cpu so any path he chooses will work. Thanks again, as always this community rules.

Yes that is what I am seeing, XFLOW is giving me better performance. I use a dual pass rad before and could not get past 2600 mhz. BTW 2700 mhz out of a 3200 is a 700 mhz oc, not 200. :confused:
