Please look in my sig for the specs on my rig. I keep it running 24/7. The squealing started about 3 months ago, but it's gotten really bad of late. The squealilng starts up when the PC has been on for a while (I'd say maybe a day). If I cold shut down the PC and boot up, it goes away...until the next day.

I thought it was the heat because it gets pretty hot here in Seattle w/o AC. However, I just moved to a place with AC and it's set at 76 degrees all day. I did however just put in that Radeon 4850 whereas I had a Geforce 8600GTS in there before. However, the squeals were there (although less loud) before, so I don't think it's the video card. Can you guys help me try to diagnose what the problem is? Could it be one of the hard drives? Maybe a capacitor(?) on the motherboard has gone bad due to overheating? I will tell you that I had one a video card die on me due to being in this PC (one of the capacitors overheated and sorta "burst"). Pic here

Thanks.

Electrical squeal or mechanical? You can test each fan by stopping them with your finger (slow them down gradually by pressing on the middle section, avoiding the blades). If its electrical, remove components one by one. When down to the barebones set of required parts, you'll have to swap out parts. If its electrical, I've found that its typically the PSU.

Turns out one of the hard drives was making the noise. so if anyone else has this issue down the road, check your hds as well.
