I need a pc that will play World of Warcraft, Halflife 2 with decent to hi FPS. Im looking for something around $500-$700. This is what I have so far...

AMD Sempron 64 2800+ $74.00
ASUS K8N $63.00
CORSAIR ValueSelect DDR 400 (2 x 512MB) $66.50
eVGA Geforce 6600GT 128MB AGP $139.00
ENERMAX Whisper II EG565P-VE 535W Power Supply $88.50

If PCI-E would be better...
ASUS K8N4-E DELUXE $87.00
eVGA Geforce 6800GS 256MB PCI-E $169.00

Better ram maybe?...
CORSAIR XMS (2 x 512MB) TWINX1024-3200C2PT $93.00

These are just some ideas, there maybe some underlying overclockable cpu that i missed or maybe I could go 939 for under $700 i dunno :p

if you can, try to land a PCI mobo and PCI Vid card...prolly 4 bucks more...if you have to, look through the FS/FT forums located on this website...

I agree with Junebug. Try to get PCI-Express motherboard and you can get the ATI X850XT with 16 pipes (6600GT has only 8) for a little more money. I would also think about going with the Athlon64 versus the Sempron. You can get a 3000+ for about $140.

Just work a little OT or something...you'll be much happier in the long run.

Here's the X850XT for $154 after a $15 rebate.

Here's a nice motherboard for $71.50.

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice $159.00
OR
AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego $212.00
Is the extra $53 worth the 1GB L2 Cache?

ASUS A8N-E $90.99
OR
ABIT KN8 Ultra $94.99
OR
EPoX EP-9NPA+Ultra $105.00
Which is the better overclocker?

SAPPHIRE 100106SR-RD Radeon X850XT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card
$164.00 after $15.00 Mail-In Rebate

SAPPHIRE 100106L Radeon X850XT 256MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card
$154.00 after $15.00 Mail-In Rebate
Is there a difference between these two cards?

DON'T get the Asus K8N/E if you plan on overclocking. Some might say that overclocking is a bonus, not something you pay for but I disagree. A Sempron 2800+ (1600Mhz effective) with a E6 or E3 core can hit pretty high, ranging from 2500 to 3000Mhz. Instead I would go with a DFI LanParty UT nF 3 or something from MSI. EPoX would be good aswell.

nice thread...keep the suggestions coming guys...how bout the processor? is that the best he can get for that price....? IMO i would grab the opty 144, EPOX, the cheap PSU suggested here, and the x800...should still be around the price range you want...+ add a Lanboy case in there if you dont already have a case...60 bucks at Comp USA...what else...grab a HDD from the FS/FT thread, if not, I'll sell you one of my 200gig Maxtors I have on reserve....Oh, and you'll need an OS...Try the Vista for free? not sure how long you can use it tho...LOL

the AMD Athlon 3700+ definetely. With 1MB L2 Cache it's going to be smooth as butter

The ABIT or the EPoX.

I'm thinking that the difference from those two cards would be that one is a master card(the RD one), meaning you could hook up another regular X850 and get Crossfire.
