Yes I am moron at overclocking... and I'm confused and need some help..
Actually not sure if I should post this here or in the amd proc thread... well anyways.
Trying to get a good oc on my proc but it just isn't happening... this is what I have for my specs.

thats everything.. plus my cooling its the thermalright slk not sure which one.. buts its the latest one thats was before the copper one with heat pipes.. so yea.. that and a tornado 80mm.. hope I can get some help. :confused: :confused:
 
i'm actually impressed that the chip works with all that thermal paste everywhere. i'm guessing it's not arctic silver, is it? :D

Loosen your memory timings (2.5-3-3-7, or 3-3-3-8) to see if you can get more headroom on your FSB frequency. If not, then you are CPU limited. Otherwise, you'll get a better OC.

Edit, my bad, I can't read. Forget what I said. I don't think there is much more that you can do.
 
change your tras to 11 or 12 ex.. 2-3-3-11 also.. is your memory 2-3-3 @ 200?

the only thing i see limiting you is vcore.. it is at 1.65.. that is probably all the higher it gets on stock voltage.. i bet you can hit 200 fsb with a little more voltage.. just watch your temps and all taht good stuff..

and go to http://arcticsilver.com/arctic_silver_instructions.htm and make sure your compound is applied correctly..

my advice. is to up the vcore and watch temps.. but you should hit 200 fsb with no problems imo ...
 
lol don't bother with 2-3-3-11 or anything with CAS 2. if you want high oc with good timings, go with 2.5-3-3-11.
 
All good advice. You should be able to up the vcore no prob, but dont overdo it. My NF7s undervolts so 1.725 gives me 1.70. With that my 2600 barton can do 2400mhz. I wouldnt recommend you go much higher than 1.775. And as far as temps go, keep it under 50c. Good luck.

k so nevermind... it's just crashing... won't make it stable past 2.22ghz... :(

What would be a good proc amd xp wise to oc with? mobiles? :confused: I just wanna have something to mess with... I prolly need diff ram to don't i?
 
The mobile chips are what you'd want, yes. But post your CPU-Z pictures again with the 2.2 or 2.3ghz overclock. You may need to raise your ram timings or raise your vcore to get it stable. Also post pics of your idle/load temps.
 
I've got a 2600+ Barton running at 210 MHz FSB with a 9.5 multiplier for a core clock of 2.0 GHz.

I've been able to get this running at exactly 3200+ speeds but it's actually more stable with a higher FSB and lower multiplier than when it was running as a 3200+.

I'm using Mushkin PC3500 DDR RAM, rated at 2/4/4/7 latencies at 217MHz, but I have it slightly faster at 2/3/3/7 at 210. I'm also currently using stock voltages, but when running at 3200+ speeds, I had to kick up the voltage a bit to keep it stable.

Stable as a rock, but it does run kinda hot. If you're looking for a proc to mess around with though, this is probably the one. It's original ratings are for 166 MHz FSB operation, and the multiplier is unlocked. It's currently running at 210 MHz, which is over even the 3200+ stock bus speed of 200. I had this system overclocked higher than my friend's system, who was running a 3200+ on the same Asus A7N8X Deluxe board. The biggest factor is apparently the RAM. If you can get some RAM rated for really low latencies at PC3500 or higher, you should be able to loosen up the timings a bit and get the FSB up real high.

As far as I can tell though, your 2800+ Barton should be capable of at least the sames speeds as what I'm running, if not more, but you probably won't be able to get much faster than 3200+ speeds, because that seems to be the ceiling fr the Barton core. Your best bet is to just get some really good RAM and crank up the FSB a few more notches, or turn up the core voltage a little bit when you get to a slightly unstable speed. The higher voltage should tide you over, but make sure you're not running too hot.

thats what i've been hearing.. I think thats the way I might go... so question now is which is best for overclocking in your guys opinion, mobiles of course.

Generally either a 2500+ or a 2600+, cant really say why, but the 2500+ and 2600+ run stock at 1.45vocre, while the 3000+ runs at 1.5vcore
 
which mobile is best? probably the general concensus will be a 2400+ 35w, or a 2600+ 45w.. but i can get over 2.5ghz with my 2200+ 35w.. they are all good.. and they all have gone up in price more and more since i looked at buying one...

If its a 2800+ Athlon XP, it can go higher then that, my sisters 2500+ runs at 2253mhz if I remember correct, or at 3200+ speeds. That baby should go a little higher atleast.
 
my 2100 tbred-b aiuhb runs at 2253@1.65v never really tried to put it any higher

this 2500m runs at 2200@1.525v, does 2400@1.6v, and that's as high as i've put it :p

i keep my place too warm to give these things more voltage
 
Yeah, I get the feeling that all the Barton-core procs are exactly the same, and were just marked down to lower speeds. There doesn't seem to be any difficulty running anything from 2500+ (is that a Barton?) and faster at 3200+ speeds. I've never tried a mobile proc; I didn't even realize you could buy them for desktop use. That could be interesting.

I think I'll prolly go with the 2600+, but still the 2400+ with only 35watt vcore is quite attractive though T-T;;

naw it won't I've tried everything, i guess mine just doesn't like holding up stablely under the stress :(
 
really... i don't see it worth the money to get a new processor... just run the one you have at somethin glike 215 x 10.5 or 220 x 10.. it will be quite a bit faster at the same clock speed, unless you have to loosen your ram timings too much to get there... i personally have been running at 2ghz for over 2 monthjs becuase i have no reason to make mine faster even though i can go up to 2.5 with no problems...

Yea I'm prolly not gonna bother upgrading my cpu at this point..if I do upgrade in the next couple of months it'd prolly be to a 64bit..anyways :p

well none the less this is what I'm running my pc at right now and its running stable.. so I think I'll leave it at this.

up your ram voltage a bit.. and go for 210 or something.. just a little bit.. see how high you can get it with 2.5-3-3 and a modest voltage on the ram... that's my opinion.. fsb will make a bigger difference than even a few mhz..

but.. that looks good.. but it really depends on what you want and why...

to test the memory.. get memtest86.. make sure that you can run it with no errors at 210.. if you can't.. up the memory voltage, loosen the timings, or lower the fsb.. i don' tknow what motherboard you have or if it has an agp lock.. that could make a differeence as to how high you can up your fsb..

right now you are at faster than 3200+ speed.. i am fine with 200x10 personally.. ebcause i don't do anything intense on my computer.. and a gig of ram lets me run anything i want smoothly...

so.. you could stay with that.. you could go faster, or slower... your cpu is 46 c at idle.. mine is about that at load.. depending on the room temp.. but that is fine actually..

test for stability though... memtest86, sandra, prime95 etc...

yea.. so I was savingv my bios settings for my nf7s and my power goes out... now it won't even post anyone have any idea of how to fix this? the bios resset doesn't work. any help would be greatly apprieated.
specs in sig if you need them... my board is a rev.2
 
What do you mean by "Saving my BIOS settings"? Do you mean you were making changes in your BIOS and your power went out before you could save, or do you have some kind of BIOS backup program.

If it's the first one, you shouldn't have had any problems with the BIOS after the power came back. If it's the second one, you may have corrupted the BIOS while in the middle of reading it. If that's the case, you might be out of luck, because the only way to fix a corrupted BIOS, for example if you turned off your computer in the middle of a BIOS update, would be to buy a new BIOS chip and physically replace it on the board.

Before you go that far though, have you already tried using the BIOS reset jumper and removing the CMOS battery for a few minutes and/or a combination of both at the same time? If that doesn't work, then you definately need a new BIOS, or something else on the board was damaged due to the power outage.

Are you connected to a power strip, I hope? It's pretty unlikely anything on the board could have been damaged by just losing power, but if there was a power surge that caused the outage, and you're not a on a surge protector power strip, that could be a problem.

Most likely, if you were in the middle of reading/writing to the BIOS when the power went out, your BIOS chip needs to be replaced.
 
Yeah it might be screwed. My Nf-7 says
DO NOT POWER OFF WHILE BIOS SAVING YOUR SETTINGS
and I think he means he lost power then. Does anyone know where to even get a new bios chip?
 
I always crank the voltage as high as possible when oc'ing...then check my temps. If I am not near death on the chip all is fine. Cant you get more on your vdimm?
