I just got a laptop for a gift the other day. (SPECS). But I have absolutely NO idea about graphics that are mobile. A lot of people say its not possible to upgrade but I know that nVidia and ATI make mobile graphic chips.

So two questions I guess.

1. Can I run a game such as Warhammer Online?(REQUIREMENTS)

2. Can I upgrade these graphics?

I'm assuming that this task would be difficult because the chip is embedded directly into the motherboard right?

Thanks in advance guys :)

1. Techincally, i guess youd have to try and find out for yourself.
2. No and NO, and its not difficult its near impossible. Its an INTEL chip

ahhh, ok thanks for the help; so i guess im limited to an external gpu or is that impossible for my situation as well?

Depends on if your computer meets the requirements. It might be able to work, asus has an external graphics enclosure thingy, but your gonna need a express card slot i think. Hefty graphics need a powerful cpu.

im pretty sure it has an express slot, as for the cpu, i know its not the greatest but it holds its own. This definitely isnt a super fast laptop but i hope it will make due with regards to warhammer since i was thinking about getting it.

Sorry man looks like you got the short end of the stick.

There is a standardized mobile port for discrete graphics, but its not optionable to be unfilled. If your board ships with discrete graphics, you can swap out one card for another (battery and thermals willing), but no board that ships with integrated will support a discrete card.

Yeah, intel is basically screwing the mobile gaming industry over. Their mobile (and desktop to a lesser extent) integrated graphics products are atrotious. In terms of gaming performance in a laptop on the cheap, a laptop with an AMD chipset will run circles around its intel compeditor. AMD has some impressive integrated solutions. A $1500-$1700 laptop can game as well as a $1000 desktop built for the same purpose.

its ok i guess, i didnt plan on doing serious gaming, this was primarily for school but if i could play warhammer my dream would be answered

Why's everyone dissing the 4500MHD? I'm guessing none of you have used it? My U330 has it and it's been ok for gaming so far. It's much better than the 3100.

Anyway, if OP had bothered to read the specs page for his own laptop and the requirements page for WHO, he would have seen that his card is on their supported list, so yes, according to the official site, your card can play the game, OP.

he doesnt have the HD version, he has just a 4500m, the HD is much better then the reg m version, and it does say you can play the game but doesnt say how good, prob at 640 x 480 res with everything low.

didnt u say it was a gift? Why dont you just try it? no harm in testing it out.

because that would involve spending 50 bucks that is non-refundable.

I did end up buying it and installing it, for those of you who are interested, it runs amazingly, almost on all med/high settings with 30+ fps.

And just for clarification, although my chipset was listed on the requirements page, it did have this notice at the bottom "Laptop versions of these chipsets may work, but may run comparatively slowly. Standalone cards that are installed in vanilla PCI slots (not PCIe or PCIx or AGP), such as some GeForce FX variants, will perform poorly." So that was my primary concern.

Thank you guys for your help, as far as i'm concerned the 4500m fits my needs just fine.
