I have an old computer I got from a friend. Specs are AMD 1200 some mb that says PC DDR 266 thats all. An older MX440 GFX card. Well I have everything plugged in. I press power and I hear the fans but I do not hear anything else. No bios beep or anything. I have removed the processor from the heat sink a few times and I just applied the putty on it again. Any ideas? I'm thinking its a bad processor but then again...i'm not sure.

When you applied this putty, where did you get it from and how/how much did you apply?

-reseat everything, clear out all the dust.

-pull anything extra out (e.g. modem, nic, sound card, cd-rom)

-start swapping out remaining parts until you find the bad one.
i'd try the power supply 1st. (just fixed one last week that did just what you describe... just fans spin up.... new power supply fixed it up)

and strip off ALL the used up 'putty' and re-do it properly with a THIN coat of new paste.! <sigh>

I have an older celeron processor I wonder if it will work with this board. I'll try to take some pics to see if you guys can identify what brand it is.

the celly is prolly socket370 CPU while the AMD is SocketA and they are incompatible so I don't think it will work :p

just a little FYI: AMD and Intel are two different companies with two different sets of standards. so it won't work ;)

I was playing about the celeron :p Hmm still no luck with a dif power supply either...HMmm what could be the problem.
