Help me understand "forcing refresh rates" problem?

for years now i've been using the Nvidia driver "force refresh rate" tool that coolbits unlocks in the driver control panal. People here are saying that you lose performance/FPS in games using this tool, so downloading refresh force would be the prefered way of "forcing" the correct refresh rate without losing performance. So after reading all this, I downloaded refresh force, installed it, and set it up, but haven't had a chance to play HL2 yet, or UT2004, but do you think i'll notice a difference? Oh, ya, before installing Refresh Force, I went in the nvidia control panel, and DISabled "force refresh rates" so refresh force will control everything.

anyone

Re-Force works as it's supposed to and works fine, but it has problems with Half_Life 2. Not matter what i tried it just doesn't work with Hl2. So i just use the built in ATI refresh rate fixer for that game only. Try it with your nVIDA card though and see how it goes. Ideally you would want a refresh rate above 85 Htz or above to but down on screen nausea with Hl2. I run Hl2 @ 85 Htz @ 1152x864. Hl2 is the only game i jave had any troubles with using reforce with thus far. Extensive googling provided me with finding others in the same boat as myself, with some managing to play around by enabling and disabling and getting it to work somehow.
