Help me spend money....

It's not a huge amount, but I have a $50 gift cert for Amazon and I'm at a bit of a lost on what to spend it on. (I'm used to dropping $280 on GX2s)

Most of you know my farm basics. (I'm currently out of room for GPUs, Unless some one wants to buy a 8800GS off me to free up a spot, and we can add that money into the pile)

I'll fill you in on details if a suggestion will/wont wort.

I am willing to add a bit of cash to the mix.

And no, I'm not buying cases for the naked boxen

(A thought: if anyone knows of a good gaming router to keep the uploads from killing my connection that would be great)

If you don't already have 80+ PSUs this would be a good opportunity to fix that.

Every PSU I have is 80+ that was done 2 months ago.

LOL. My wife has the AC at 70 during the summer (she HATES summer in TX), so our electrical bill is always high. Even with only my laptop and Q6600 folding, we're at $350/month. We budget for it as I don't want my wife suffering and therefore me suffering from her wrath.

There are decent gaming routers out there, but none are going to be cheaper than $150 and probably closer to $200.

I actually ran through your setup in my head and can't think of anything that $50 would help

I got a kill-a-watt meter so I could see just how much power my box was using. JUST the box is burning ~394watts. It uses about 35 dollars worth of electricity in a month according to my calculations @ 12 cents per kWh. The laptop is using only 90 watts with the screen on at full load. Without the screen it drops to ~55-70 depending on if it is charging the battery or not. But back to your problem. I set up a Smoothwall Linux box for a router for the same reason. I was tired of the router crashing when I ran it really hard. It was almost a daily occurrence when I was doing torrents. It doesn't take a very fast computer to run it, but that is if you HAVE an extra one around with two Ethernet cards. Check out the operating system @ www.smoothwall.org

I'm very tempted to sell the 8800GS that is in the HTPC and get an ATI card.

I dunno about good "gaming router" (is there really such a thing, or is it clever marketing?), but I've been using one of these for heavy gaming for about 3 years now. As long as I don't do silly things like run BT uploads uncapped, which overloads connections even plugged direct to modem, I don't see any problems. As of late I've even been doing Trendnet router -> Trendnet wireless bridge -> Trendnet switch for my mini-farm without problems.

How does a 4850 compare to a 4870 in output? They are the same core with the only difference being the clock speed and the cooling solution. The GDDR5 won't really help the folding.
