Help me setup a RAID5 PATA array.

Hello,

I am looking for some help on setting up a RAID5 PATA IDE array. Has to be Windows 2003 compatible. So the Adaptec 2400A is out. User reviews of the Highpoint 454 or 404 make me want to find something different. High CPU usage and software RAID. 3ware makes some great cards but most of them are 64bit. From what I have heard, any 64bit card will work in a 32bit slot. Is this true?

What other options do I have?
 
Most 64-bit cards work in 32-bit slots but it's up to the manufacturer on whether or not they will offer that support. Word of advice: putting a 64-bit PCI-X card into a 32-bit slots severly cripples the card. It won't make it unusable but it does cut down on your bandwidth.

If I may ask, why PATA? Why not go SATA? 250GB SATA drives are going for $104 on Newegg, $110 if you go for the Western Digital Raid Editions. Sata has a higher MTB than IDE drives and has less cable clutter.
 
Sata RAID 5 is the way to go now.

I have a slightly dated Adaptec 2400A and i can say that it could use a performace boost.
 
The reason why I am sticking with PATA is because I already have 3 250GB drives. Currently I have the 2 of them in a RAID 1 config but RAID 5 would give me additional space.
