So I bought a 10GB network card and hooked it up. But it shows it only running at 1000mbps. If I plug it into my built in card, it runs at 2.5GB. I attached what I am seeing. So it cant be the network cable. Why would it run so slow vs the built in?

So it appears I put the 10GB card in PCIE4. Looking it up on my ASRock X690 Riptide, it is limited to 1000mbps. So where else do I install this network card?

x540 is 100m/1g/10g. No 2.5g/5g.

What did you plug it into?

That can't be right. Almost any modern pcie slot will be more than enough for 10Gb. Remember, 10Gb/s is divided by 8 to get GB/sec, so it's only 1.25GB/sec which any x4 PCIe slot since the introduction of PCIe can handle at full speed.

Furthermore, the transfer rate between the card and the PCI bus doesn't determine the link speed of the network card itself so it's probably just not plugged into a 10Gb switch to link at 10Gb.

What is on the other side? What kind of cable? Length of cable?

From his other thread, I think he’s trying to direct connect his PC to his NAS that he claims is 10GB.
