As the title states, Im looking for a notebook. I have $1000+tax to spend at best buy. I had a recent purchase go sour so now I have $500 in store credit. I dont want to spend more than $1000 total. I was thinking about spending a little more and getting a mac, but I really dont do much that would take advantage of spending the extra cash on a mac.
I do some gaming, which is usually on my desktop, but I wouldnt mind doing a little gaming for fun while on break at work or school.
Right now I am torn between two machines of quite different backgrounds
the Asus G50Vt-X5

And the Dell Studio XPS 13

The asus to me is not very appealing to look at. (I hate yellow) I know a skin could take care of that problem. The system did have a nice feel to it. the touch pad was nicer than that on the xps. Graphics are obviously better with a 9800 vs the 9400 on the xps.
However the xps is lighter/smaller which I do like. Had backlit keys which I really like. and also runs ddr3 memory. I know that the 9800 would blow the 9400 out of the water is gaming, but even on lower settings could I still do a decent amount of gaming on the 9400? quality isnt that much of an issue. especially on that little 13, just the game play in general. If I could get away with running low settings to get a decent frame rate I would be happy with that.
Another thing is battery life. Im not sure what the difference is between the two. Not a huge deal but being able to run at least 3 hours net surfing would be nice.
Id really like some input from anyone who has/had either of these models.
Or even if someone can point me in the direction of something else I might have missed at best buy.
thanks for any help

Performance-wise, the Asus obviously wins, as you pointed out. Depending on what games you play, you may be able to get away with the 9400m on the Dell. Any idea on what kind of games you'd be running?

maybe some cod4-5. bioshock. maybe a little racing with dirt or some nfs. I dont do any online gaming at all. mostly fps and racing.
