Help me paint a computer case

As a gift to my nephew, I wanted to build him his very first computer.

His only request is that the case follows the "Thomas the Tank Engine" theme (Blue and White).

Bitfinex used to make a pretty cool blue micro-atx case, but they have been discontinued. I was thinking about buying a cheap mid tower case and just spray painting it. I have no experience painting cases and quality workmanship probably isn't required, but ideally, I don't want the paint to flake.

Any suggestions? (either in terms of recommending a blue case, or handy tips for painting one?)

Many thanks!

real easy. i always use auto spray paint but it doesn't really matter. get the colors and clear coat of the same brand. buy a case, lightly sand areas to be painted, mask with tape and news paper if needed, paint case using several(5-6) light coats, clear coat with several light coats, polish it if you want. for best result do all this in as clean of an area as you can, no dust or bugs.

Awesome - that is exactly the advice I was looking for (and fortunately, is easier than I was expecting).

If it fails, I will be making a new addition to the ghetto mod thread :)

if you do get crap in the paint or clear coat you can use a really high grit wet/dry sandpaper to correct it before the next coat is applied.
and if you want to polish it, just use a car polish/wax.

depending on how much effort you wanna put in, count on it being at least an afternoons worth of work. however it turns out you'll still be the cool aunt/uncle that built him his first pc!

I once has a case powder coated with what they called "midnight metallic" it was a really deeeeep dark blue/black color with a ton of rainbow metallic flakes. I clear coated it and polished it with Maguire's car polish. it looked like you could reach into it. my niece is running it now.

you could use Cerakote supposed to be good for metal since its designed for guns.
