i have an epox mf570sli board with a x2 windsor 4200+ cpu...

now i've gotten it to 2833 with some significant voltage (1.55), previously it was on stable at 2750 but i got a big typhoon and i think the additional airflow over the vrm's has helped...

now i wonder, do you think that i could possible get a better overclock if i actively cooled the chipset and the vrm's on the board? the chip has almost no default voltage overclocking headroom... even for an extra 10-15 mhz i had to bump up the voltage...

the mobo has no cooling on the vrm's and a pathetic little chipset cooler. i'm wondering if getting a zalman nb47f would be beneficial?
 
first of all, thats a really good OC on that chip on air. pretty insane voltage too. For a few bucks, it can't hurt at all, even if it doesn't improve your OC
 
what are your temps? that vcore is higher than i like on water....

but i know that when my AMD dualcore gets over 55*C it fails prime... could be cooling?

I have also see the same cpu, same volts, same mobo, better cooling get more OC...

so maybe water?
 
Better cooling on the NB probably won't anything... These NB's can be run totally passive (with a small HSF akin to the older golden zalman NB passive coolers) without ill effect.

Cooling the Vrms? same deal... The outputs of these components isn't severely affected unitl their temperatures get in the 80+C range...

I wonder if your chip HAS any more headroom?

If you're going over 55c, at that speed, it's quite possible that you're failing due to temperature.
 
I just want to say that is an amazing OC. The best I can get on my X2 4400+ is 2.64GHz. Anything else and I'm not stable. What is your secret? I could use some help.

If you already need that much voltage, thats about all the chip is gonna give you. AMDs scale well but once you need to give it alot of voltage you start to hit the limit of the chip. My x2 3800 did 3.0 Ghz prime stable @ 1.5volts. I couldnt keep it stable much higher though.
 
my temps are low... getting around 47-50 load with dual prime for around 20mins... ran prime overnight and no issues...

cpu idles at around 30-34(seen it as low as 27)... Using the epox utility, coretemp give me temps within degree of those, usually core temp's temps are lower than the epox util's...

it was prime stable before at 55-60 at 2750 and anything over that it would rash within a couple of mins. As soon as i got my big typhoon i was able to prime stable at 2833 and i can even super pi at 2882... i dont understand how the big typhoon made it possible to oc further over my old zalman 9500 when the temps were only 2-5 degree's better. i got a feeling the air over the vrm's might be helping... its a shot in the dark atm... perhaps a new mobo (a 590 chipset) will help me oc further seeing as with this one i cant overclock at all on stock and most guys can get an extra +-100mhz on stock voltage...

i should be happy with 2833 but for some reason i'm not, i still cant run game at 1280x1024 smoothly, maybe thats cause i only have a 7800 gt, gonna voltmod it soon and try get some more fps out of it :p

How much memory do you have and what frequency does it run at? Overclocking your CPU more is NOT going to change your gaming experience - your fine at 2.8. You need to look at other components. A 7800 GT even voltmodded and overclocked to the T's aint going to help. I would suggest using 2 Gigs of DDR 500 and upgrading your GPU when you get some money. You never mentioned what you are running at (mult x fsb) currently?
 
running a 7800gt @ 480 / 1150 (unmodded)
1 stick of ddr2 667 ram at 946mhz 5/5/5/15 (getting another one soon)

i'm running 258x11, ldt at 4x... funnily enough changing the ram speed up from 667 to 946 hasnt made any difference to my performance at all...
