I don't know if I should keep my current system or sell to by a new one...

Current Rig:

Abit IC7-MAX3
3.0c at 3.4
1GB muskin blue 2-3-3-6
AIW X800XT 530/560

Want this:

ASUS P5WD2 Premium
630 Prescott 3.0
Patriot 1GB (2 x 512MB)DDR2 800 4-4-4-12
X850XT

Or just wait for the next revision of chipsets and processors?
 
Come on any one of the knowledgeable Intel Guys gotta a suggestion? Do you think I would gain anything beside 64 support?

Generally there is a speed increase getting 64 support, but the machine you have now should be enough to do most of what you are wanting i think(?). Intel just announced their new cores, so it might be a good idea to wait for them (maybe?) if you can since it seems like you are an intel user =p
 
Thanks EricNS for the opinion, I do alot of video editing and just didn't know if a new system would be much faster. I've read alot of post where people are getting the 630 close to 4ghz plus the added bus speed, but them you add the new Cas of DDR2 and I'm lost again....

Keep the suggestions coming guys. It would cost me ruffly a grand to change it all over.......

I don't think its worth the $1,000. If you game, go with AMD 64 and SLI mobo. That will be a bigger difference for the money.

Yes, most of my systems are Intel, but AMD gives you more bang right now. ;)
 
a 3800+ is pretty sweet, you should maybe look at some price for performance comparisons in the dual core market.
 
I have almost the same rig currently (2.8c).

I've decided to wait for a new platform from Intel, and just upgrade my CPU to a 3.4 Prescott at this time. I hope to get 4Ghz out of it.
 
Well I went that route and got a 3.4e prescott.I was able to get to 3.8, but that SOB would get so hot 57 idle / 73 full load w/xp120 and a panaflow on high with a v1000 case. It was unreal and that is w/stck voltage. at 103watts it's just not for air cooling and it really didn't bench much higher than my northy... I sold it and went back to my northy. which runs 52 full load.
 
That's too hot. I have a 3.2 @ 3.6 and it only goes up to 57C at full load. Try remounting it. The first time I put my heatsink on I had too much paste and the temps were high.
 
I remounted it several times over the month that i had it. I couldn't get temps any lower. Could possible been a bad chip, but my when my computer was on it was like a space heater in the room. if I stuck an 18 in fan on high right up to the case open on high I could get it run 65c, but then couldn't hear myself think..... :D
