Hi guys. I just finished my 5th WU on my little P4 2.4 boxen. My next WU is 50,000 frames and wont be done until may 2009......Huh?????

Any way I can ditch this WU and get a smaller bite????

Help. It doesnt seem right that I got such a big piece to work on.....I mean no more points until 2009????

what protien is it and on what kind of rig is it??? what is telling you till 2009?? More info please....the calculations are sometimes off...so waiting a little might change the estimate
 
Sounds like the graphical version. It estimates pretty horribly initially..
 
Well I have a GROMACS core, p2121 ww domain mutar

Frames 50000

The graphic is telling me it will take 1041 days to complete the work....fuck.

I estimate that at 6 frames per hour it will take me 347 days to do the work.....

Anybody else ever get a chunk of work this beeeeeeeeg before.

Im discouraged. :(

I have a P4 2.4 Ghz with 1 GB Ram dedicated to folding. It does nothing else all day.
 
ok...that should take at least 2-3 days to finish....and im sorry...those WU's are FUCKING EVIL SPAWNS OF MOOSE DROPPINGS.....ok got that off my chest :) there is a thread from a while back complaining about those things...just let it run and it will finish...it just sucks but it still is helpfull otherwise it would be in rotation still.

If you are using the graphical version do yourself a favor and switch to the console version. It’s faster and far less problem to use.

That’s 408 points so it should only take a few days. We all get them; we all live with them its part of the project.

Yes, the graphic finally figured out the timing. I'm now crunching along at 7 seconds per frame and this large piece of "work" will be done late Monday night.

Man at first I was very depressed. I would think for 4 days of work you'd get a butt load of points......but not so.

Anyway......can somebody please explain to me in very simple third grade fashion, how I could switch from the graphic to the console version without loosing any work???? I tried this on my borg unit and FUBAR'd it. I also couldnt get EM III to find the console while it was running.

Im really stupid when it comes to this I guess, so any help is appreciated. :D
 
I did to copy this to somewhere....but here are the directions.

1. Delete the Startup item for folding in the Start->Startup folder
2. Download the console client to C:\program files\Folding@home
3. Move the folder to the c: drive (easier)
4. Go into command Prompt (start->run->cmd
5. navigate to the folder
6. Type in Fah504-console.exe -configonly
7. Run through the setup and make sure to select "Run Automatic"
8. Restart

and then you are good my friend :)

Oh...and EM3 should just point to this folder and you should be good with that.
 
I run the graphical client on my workstation at home, it's horrible at estimating the time at first until it gets several frames finished and then will become accurate. The other day when I restarted it after a little gaming, it told me it was going to take 149 days to finish a 53 point WU that was already 70% done. Well 6 hours later that WU was turned in :cool:

Indeed......1049 days......WTF???? Now recalculated to 3 days at 7 seconds a frame....jeezzzz.

I've been putting the 5.02 client on all of my machines... anything more advantageous with 5.04? (Yes I've read changelog) :)

i have seen some problems with 5.04 and dropped to 5.02 but they were pretty isolated
 
I keep seeing threads like this about these "Protenes". Could someone explain what these are, what they do, and what they are used for? i've never heard of these till i started reading hard forums. Everytime i see the word protene i think of some form of biology or chemical process that pharmicutical companies use to make drugs and what not. But i'm guessing thats not the case.

Or links explaining these "protenes" would be nice...

Yup, we're talking about the proteins in human cells. They "fold" to perform various functions (like creating the chemicals that make a cell split). When they fold improperly, they cause problems, like cancer. Folding@Home simulates how these proteins fold, in an effort to determine what makes proteins fold improperly. Hopefully, that will lead to discoveries on how to prevent proteins from folding that way, or how to make them go back to normal if they've already gone bad, or how to make them destroy the cell (and themselves) if they fold incorrectly.
