I'm going to get either the new DFI SLI board or the non SLI of the same board.

Do I get the SLI and two 6800 (or 6600) gt's or get the non-sli and a top end ATI?
The price difference is around 60 bucks right now between the boards.

Note: I do play more HL2-mods than anything else.

From all I've been reading while the ATI generally is better in HL2-based games, the SLI (and it's upgradeability) is tempting. I could buy one card now and another down the road or not.

I've owned both ATI and NVidia (I currently have a 6800 Ultra in my rig now which will be going into another machine).

I would go for getting sli and getting the two 6800's but then again not every game takes advantage of the sli technology or if you want you can go with the new ati X850xt.

2 6800GTs for sure.

With the new drivers Nvidia is coming out with, plus the ability to make custom profiles for any game you want (so it can play with SLI support) which only take like 3 minutes. It's the clear choice. Plus, you can brag about "How you have ultra uber game performance becasue you have 2 high end video card", people who are into video cards will be impressed, people who game but have no knowledge about good video cards will grovel at your feet while you proclaim the supreme lordship of all that is holy and unholy in this world...
