Hello.

I wanted an over-22" monitor so I went to local stores. Didn't find much, and above 24" they started to offer TVs. The problem with TVs is that first, I don't need one, and second, they were all 720p, which I think will make the PC higher resolutions look horrible.

Anyway, these are the models I found, ordered by price, ascending:

Prices are just for comparison. I'm not in the States and you probably can find them cheaper elsewhere. They are rather within my budget (~$300).

I've put the "highlights" below each model and underlined what I think are the main ones. I'm a power-consumption freak, so I also added this value in watts.

At first sight, I would say the bigger, the better, but the Samsung one is not LED. I assume that this reflects in the consumption. Is there more about LED that I'm just overlooking?

This Samsung does not have that D-Sub port, but I don't care about that. It also has a smaller response time, but I have no idea if this would a noticeable advantage over the other two displays. Just to be clear, I will use this for software development and average gaming.

Finally, I would like to see your opinions about that "Cinema 3D". I don't have a 3D player and I'm not interested in buying one, which sends me to a single destination: games. So the question is simple. Is it worth the extra money?

Samsung Sync-Master P2570 seems to be the best option for you at this stage. So what if it is LCD. LCD monitors have not suddenly gone bad after the emergence of LED monitors. The power consumption of present era LCD monitors is also not too high.

But in any case if you want to go for a LED monitor above 22" then Samsung S27A550H could be the model for you. It is a Full HD monitor with 2 ms response time and brightness 300cd/m². It also includes HDMI and D-Sub ports.

LED backlighting=lower power consumption and thinner bezels typically at the cost of screen uniformity. Ignore contrast and brightness numbers. Higher brightness=higher black level=greyish blacks and washed out dark content. Most monitors are lucky to have around 850:1 contrast. When it comes to TN panels usually 2ms panels are much faster but there are exceptions.

Other than the fact that it is an inexpensive 3D capable display the LG has nothing going for it. LG 3D runs at half the resolution of Nvidia 3D monitors and lucks worse, hence the cheap pricing.

I would get the Samsung P2570 out of those 3. The HP 2511x or 2509B Review are also good choices if you like Glossy screens.

Thanks for the reviews. So far, I've fully discarded the 3D one (LG D2342P-PN).

Today, I found two more 24" models. Though they are not in the cheap side, those power consumptions look great.

And BTW, I've just gone to every freakin store in my city, so the list pretty much ends here. LOL!

I really like the rotation in the P2412H which quickly turns it into portrait mode. The rest of features are pretty the same. I don't know what the USB ports are good for, but the apparent lack of an HDMI port makes me wonder if this would be a problem. As far as I know, quality is basicaly the same (compared with DVI).

The last thing that bothers me is the response time. Maybe there's some gamer here who can tell me if the difference of 5ms against 2ms is something really noticeable and annoying. But again, as far as I know, I should ignore these values.
