I have $1100 for a new PC, Here's what Ive figured so far:

MB: For sure MSI K8N-NEO2 s939 $140 @ monarch
CPU: A 90nm A64 (300+ to 3500+) MUST be retail
RAM: I already have 1-512 pc3200 Mushkin that I'm putting in, so maybe another one?
GPU: BFG 6800ULTRA for $350 @ Fry's
HDD: Any Sata 80gb or more
OS: XP Home $89
PSU: Fortron Blue-Storm? If no, I need one under $100
Case: I'd Like an PC-65, but can sacrifice and use my current case

The retailer's Im buying from are Monarch, Fry's, and NewEgg. I need some people tyo help me get the most out of my money.
 
i shop four stores... newegg, directron, frozencpu, and xoxide.

so here we go:

Case: Lian-Li PC65 - $102 @ Newegg
PSU: CoolerMaster RealPower 450W PSU - $91.99 @ Xoxide
Mobo: MSI K8N-NEO2 Motherboard - $140 @ Fry's (neither Directron nor Newegg is cheaper, and the other two just do mod stuff and psu's)
CPU: AMD Athlon64 3500+ (Retail) - $286 @ Directron (On sale-- also avail. at Newegg for $289)
RAM: What you have is fine.
HDD: Seagate Barracuda 120GB SATA HDD $89.99 @ Directron
Gfx Card: BFG 6800Ultra 128MB $309 @ Directron
OS: WinXP Home Ed. SP2 $84.99 @ Directron (On sale- $87.99 otherwise)

TOTAL: $1103.97, not including shipping. A little over budget, but not enough to be a problem.

Dont be cheap with your RAM ( Your ram will outlst your CPU and your CPU is dependant on your RAM for OCin )
Get a cheap case if your budget is an issue and get a nice PSU
WD 74 Raptor for your OS and a 200gig Seagate for storage
With the left over money blow it on the best video card you can buy :)

oh yea dont forget a dvd burner or something

Reason why your not getting a 3500+ is because its a waste of money. This board and winchester cores are made to overclock, tahts why i say dont be cheap with your ram, when you get new processors you'll be able to use the same ram to OC your new chip as well. All the 3000+ and 3200+ overclock to 3500+ speeds stable if not higher.

Another reason is because the "venice core" will be released "sometime in the first half of 2005". These are supposedly the bad mamajammaz. SO this is what I suggest and what I am doing, get the lower end chip and save some money, overclock it. THen when the venice comes out you'll have more money to get one of them :)
