Hey, I need to build a new P4 computer, and since im used to AMD i'm not sure what to get.. This all need to be around 600.

1. I would like it to have 1GB of memory but i'm not sure if that will fit into my budget
2. 80GB+ Hard drive space
3. I would like it to have a nice video card, something that sounds "good" like a 9600XT
4. This system will not be overlcocked
5. I was thinking of getting a Antec SLK3700-BQE w/ 350Watt PSU...
6. It would be nice to have a CD-RW and a DVD-Rom
Thanks, I have tryed looking on NewEgg, but Im just not sure on which components to go with, thanks!

:D

i don't see why you want a p4 rig when you got a great system in your sig....that duron is freaking KILLING that pc's potential performance. get a barton 2500+ mobile, and if you really want it, get the sapphire radeon 9800 pro for ~$210 from the egg. everything else looks ace!

[edit]oh, and if you wanna make it even better, get an extra 512mb stick of that corsair ram![/edit]

second

barton is good. for 80 dollars, its worth it, and fit really nicely into your budget, allowing for more fun toys like a gig of ram, and 2 cd drives

4. This system will not be overlcocked

ESPECIALLY since this system wont be overclocked i would go for the P4 rig but i dont think your going to be able to get all that stuff on $600.

I would be looking at something like a 3.0c w/ an Intel motherboard and 1GB of Mushkin PC3200 lvl 1. Those three things right would be $600.

So since your stuck with $600 i would go with a new Athlon XP processor and the 1GB MUshkin PC3200 lvl 1 and a Nvidia 5900XT (murders a 9600XT when overclocked).

All i can say is go for good speed (probably 3.0Ghz), maybe not 1 gig RAM because that would cost too much, it would go over budget. If you are dead-set on getting a P4, get the 3.0c, 512meg, decent mobo (ASUS make quality mobos with decent price), and go for a Radeon Card, probably 9600 or 9700 to fit in with your budget. And you may not fit in 80gig+ HD with 600 bucks to spend.
see: http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?threadid=739043

I have $700 to spend, and i am looking at 2.8c, 512meg RAM, 9600SE (okay, not as good as most cards but good enough for me :) ) , cheap but decent mobo, 40gig Hd and PSU. Sure, i'll have a bit of change, but not a lot.

Hey 4keatimj, how much are you going to pay for that 9600SE? You can get a Nvidia 5900XT for between $150-200 and the core will overclock to near or faster than 5950 speeds with the memory overclocking very well also. Nvidia's drivers are alot better now and there isn't a noticeable image differece between an Nvidia and ATI card.

Ok first of all this computer is not for me so im not going to buy a processor and give the rest of my system away......

and yeah I am getting a mobile barton for it.....

so can we get back to my first question please.

sorry, didn't see that. guess i should read first? but you didn't say in the first post that it wasn't for your current system, so i kinda assumed.

dvd/cdrw: instead of 2 drives, maybe just get a nice liteon combo drive for ~$50

graphics card: 9600xt or less, even a 9600xt will take a major bite out of that budget.

memory: since you're not overclocking, maybe get a
512mb stick of crucial memory and i doubt the quality of 1 gb ram that you could achieve on a smaller budget like that.

case is nice

don't know anything about p4's so check the other posts for mobo/processor
:(

Well, lets see it will cost $255 Aus, so it would be about $150 - $200 US. I always thought that the ATI cards were so much better than the NVidia Cards, in fact i saw a great machine turned crap by a 5700 card. It returned a 4532 in 3DMark01, but the rig was a 3.06, 512meg RAM and the 128 5700 FX card. So how does the 5900 compare to Radeon cards?
