for my xp 2500; I also have
sapphire radeon 9600 128 mb
512 mb kingston 400 memory
thermaltake heatsink
Not really making OC a goal but might be nice
Aspire qpack.

Asrock SiS chipset:

MSI Nforce2 chipset:

Gamingwise im not that demanding, maybe some WoW and HL2 and nothing above 1024x768 resolution. Not looking for performance from the mobos as much as durability, something that will last me in college until i upgrade to 939 or whatever A64 socket is out in a couple of years.

thanks guys.

Also another small question: the 2500+ runs at 1.83 ghz but I heard that its equivalent to a P4 2.5, hence the 2500 name. Does this bode true for gaming (i.e. it can run if system requirements asks for a 2.0 ghz P4?)

Well if you are not going to overclock, I guess I would go with the MSI. I know alot of people have had good experiences with that Biostar, but I had 4 die. Never was sure what the cause was, but my problems went away when I switched to an EPoX 8RGMI.

Basically. PR rating especially holds true in gaming as AMD chips excel in it. Minimum system reqs are just a suggestion though and they really mean "it will run decently at this speed, but you really need to upgrade." ;) There is nothing a 2500+ should not be able to run.

I wish they still sold that board. I wonder why I seem to look at wanting the most uncommon, rarest boards out there for some reason.

:sadpanda:

we have a board that pretty close to that up here...the msi one
ours is km4m

Its a very stable board....Ive built a number of them and have never had any problems with them...i did bust a cap or whatever the little thing is above the cpu is...adn they just lemme rma it
def stick with the nforce 2 chipset
sis is a little cheesier..if you will

why not this?

i know a few dollars more but a proven matx board

I have 3200 memory, which unfortunately is not supported by this mobo :( kind of strange how the higher-end matx mobos sometimes doesn't have the range of support that some of the cheaper ones do.

Sure it is supported! The RAM just clocks down and runs at DDR333 speeds. It's not like this (DDR626): http://rds.yahoo.com/S=2766679/K=pc...64733/*-http://www.xpcgear.com/625dfipc5.html is "officially" supported by any board in existence, but that does not stop people from being able to run it. :D

Don't always feel confined by the posted specs - they are just an estimate for the masses. ;) ;)

...but if you wanted to run your RAM at it's rated speed DDR400, all you would have to do is change a setting in your bios to 200...

It's called "overclocking!" :)

yeah i got eh Chaintech 7NIL1-Summit also works great. i did the pin mod to my mobile 2500 and it clocked at 2.4ghz at 47at full load. i would recomend it.

Ya, the Chaintech was a better board. There were tons of reviews on it on Newegg, I remember, but Chaintech must have discontinued it.

Too bad that Newegg stoped stocking it, cause I just went back and looked at my order history and found that I bought it in January (I thought I bought it a way long time ago) for 47 with $6 dollar shipping.

Is putting a 24-pin neopower ok to plug into the 20-pin jetway? Just making sure on this because my X-Qpack's stock 420 isn't cutting it for the video card. Sapphire x800xl 512mb, hope its not hurting my computer until i get a new psu.

Side question. Could the AR300 in the Antec Aria case handle things better? (if kept cool enough of course)

I get 4830 for benchmark score in 3dmark03 and 05.... soo I think this psu is crap like I've been reading lol

Anyone care to elaborate on my post? Be a big help.

I would, but I don't have any hands on with the Aria.

I would think that you could just use an adapter for the power connector. My Tagan480W came with one.

::update::

My setup

I've decided on the nforce2 mobo and got it up and running. So far the mobo seems pretty stable with very good voltage readings from a stock psu, and like i said earlier I was shooting for stability over performance, being the soon-to-be poor college student that I am. This is pretty much a finished deal, at least while im in college; I will probably upgrade to 1 gig of ram and get a kick ass psu (and a bigger HD when the time comes), basically just stuff I could take into my NEXT upgrade, which will likely involve 64 bits and pci express :).

Thanks guys.

Looks great.

EDIT***

lol, I didn't notice that you had an optical drive in the bottom slot. The whole time I was reading your linked thread I was wondering where your optical drive was.
