What is the best sata harddrive to get as a backup storage drive with an asus p4c800-e deluxe motherboard. Plan on rinning it on my promise sata raid 1 conection on motherboard due to i have my 2x36 raptors on the intel ich5r connections.

After looking closer and reading many reviews, I have come to the conclusion that I will probably go with the Hitachi 120GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive due to the following reasons:

Hitachi 120GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive
1) has a 3 yr. warranty
2) cost only $83
3) excellent reviews

Hitachi 160GB 7200RPM SATA Hard Drive
http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=22-145-051&depa=1
1) listed as having a 1 yr. warranty
2) cost $99.50

Ideas and suggestions appreciated?

The Hitachi is a good choice - I have two of 'em in my new system; very fast, very quiet.

Spend the extra $16.00 and get the 160GB drive.....no question.....

FYI Hitachi bought their HD unit from IBM.. and we all know about IBM's deathstar models...

...don't forget prior to the horrible reliability problems with the 75 / 60GXP, IBM's were among the fastest drives out there. Hitachi's drives have always been quite good, too....

The way I look at it, with the going over these products got after the sale of the drive division, these drives are quite probably the most looked at, evaluated, tested, most over-engineered drives you can buy today. I sure like mine....

The Hitachi drives do seem pretty nice, but I've still had bad luck with their laptop drives. We'll see though, everyone I know who has one of the newer desktop drives has had no problems with them and they perform very well.

right now i'm using a seagate 200gb 8mb cache sata drive. It runs quiet and is very fast. i have not read much about the hitachi drives but they must be just as good. but the big difference with seagate is that you get a 5 year warranty. Which is awesome!
