Help me choose a RAID card...

Hi All,

Trying to choose a RAID card... I'm going to be running 20 3TB drives, but wont be running them in a RAID... rather JBOD...

How much processing power will i need on the RAID card, even though i'm not running the drives in RAID...

Before anyone asks... I'm not running RAID because i'm using WD Green drives.

This server is just for home media... So it won't be serving a large number of clients. Max. 6 at a time...

I was looking at an Areca ARC-1228-16 with an Intel SAS Expander but it seems a little bit expensive given i'm not even RAID'ing the drives.

Any suggestions?

If you are not planning on running RAID, you have no need to purchase a high-end RAID card. What OS are you planning on running? If you just want 20 drive letter accessible drives, you can use something like the 1015's (depending on if you have the available slots). What motherboard are you using, and which slots are free (How may PCIe x1, x4, x16 etc are free?)
