I'm not gona get into SLI but I will eventually have 4 sticks of RAM and maybe 4 HDDs. So I am guessing anything close to 500w is good for this right? I will likely get an e6600, asus p5b deluxe or p5w dh deluxe (still gota do some more research on this choice), g. skill HZ ddr2 800, sata dvd burner, 74gb raptor, 2 or more seagate barracudas 250gb, etc etc,

I am looking for quietness and stability/quality most of all. Now I've been looking around and a lot of people recommend Corsair 520HX and Seasonic S12. These are the two best I assume?

I'm leaning more towards the Corsair. It only has 30 watts less than Seasonic S12 but it is modular, it has 18amps on THREE rails while S12 has two 17A rails. The S12 does have 30A on the 3.3v and 5v rails while the Corsair has 24a on them (not sure how good of a feature that is for the S12). The Corsair right now is at the same price as S12 on newegg but I guess its usually a bit more. They're both just about equal in efficiency too but the S12 has more plugs.

So which do you guys recommend more and why? Which one is quieter or better quality? Or if you recommend other PSUs thats fine too and why? THANKS!

You've got it about right just remember that "watts" aren't everything when choosing a PSU. In other words don't buy some off-brand PSU that claims to be 500 watt and costs $30.

My recommendation would be the Corsair 520HX - it's a recent favorite on the [H]ardOCP PSU forum thanks to glowing reviews by JonnyGURU.

If that's too rich for you (hey I totally understand) then you might consider other offerings from reputable manufacturers, this FSP is quite nice:

get the HX 520. if it's a bit much, pass on the FSP, head to ewiz.com, and get the Enhance ENS-5150.

I didn't think about that one... I like Enhance as well.

No offense but do you do viral marketing for Enhance or ewiz? I did a quick google on the unit and got loads of posts from different forums where you recommend buying this unit from ewiz.com.

I wish ;) no viral marketing here.

I recommend it because it fits the bill perfectly, it's cheap, quiet, and reliable. I can't seem to find a unit that does the same as that, in that price range at least.

hi, yea i definitely know watts arent very important, just tacking it on as one of the cons when comparing the two PSUs.

but thanks for that review link! i think ill definitely swing towards this corsair unless anyone else has some info on a better PSU (quieter, more effective, etc) he did a review on the seasonic s12 modular and it got a lower score.

thanks!

The HX 520 is only $106 at zipzoomfly, shipped.

I bought an HX 520 a month ago
Man what a sweet PSU, Quietest PSU I've ever used, Rock solid voltages, I really like the ribbion style modular cables ;)

You simply won't find anything better than the Corsair at this price point. It's a hell of a deal especially with the ZZF deal someone just posted. If you can possibly afford it this is the one for you. :)
