Help me choose a Processor, Mobo, Memory, and Case

I'm a noob. i don't know much about hardware, AMD, Pentium, or overclocking. What Processor/Mobo would give me the best bang for my buck? I'm looking for something reliable since I'm still in college. I'll be using it for school, movies, and light gaming. I'm trying to not go over $1000, but I want to spend the low as I can go without sacrificing to much. Here's what I plan to get so far:

Seagate 160GB, $49.99 AR
Hitachi 160GB, $49.99AR
NEC 16X Double Layer DVD±RW, $75
Lite-On 16X DVD-ROM, $28
Mitsumi Floppy/USB Card Reader & Writer, $25

I forgot a videocard. Someone help me with that too! It's late I better get some sleep
