I am currently working on a new build of an x58 system with the i7 930 and am shooting for 4.0-4.2GHz. My little sister offered to by me a new part back at christmas time, but put a $60 limit on it. So I have been looking over things and have narrowed it to two choices:

1) Cogage True Spirit. - $40

2) Thermalright Ultra-120 eXtreme-1366 RT Rev. C CPU Heatsink (the one with the fan). - $55

I know the Cogage has some great reviews, but the 120 has always been a solid performer. Unfortunately the only eview for revision C is found here on [H]. I am just wondering how it would stack up. My hope is if I keep both with the stock fan, the 120 will be a degree or two cooler, while being a bit quieter, as the [H] review points to. I also personally prefer the more finished look of the 120.

the cogage spirit is your best bet, I've got the case and pretty much the same system as you that I am currently in the process of building. My cooler of Choice is an H50( I7 920), But I'm not really looking to do an overclock of over 3.5. I mostly wanted to have 1 less fan in my system by putting the rad over my rear 180mm.

If you're looking to get to 4.0+, then I recommend the TRUE. Actually, I'd recommend the Megahalems, but that costs a little bit more.
 
Depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking to just get 4ghz and save money, then you can't beat the COGAGE TRUE Spirit. If you want to squeeze every last bit of OC and lower temps then the TRUE would be better. I've got a TRUE Spirit right now and can run my i7 920 at 1.35v and temps will still be fine.

So basically, either will work. It just depends on how much headroom you want to have.
 
I've had my FT02S up and running for a couple of months now. I know it's not on your list, but if you could put about $10-15 more into your purchase I would suggest the Noctua U12P SE2....hands down the best cooler I've used.

My sister is getting it for me and she can only spring for $60. Also, I'm looking to be reasonable and that seems like a good limit for a budget overclocker.
 
wow never heard of COGAGE TRUE Spirit, i was all about core contact coolers anything with heatpipe direct touch but none of these coolers have that and they all did good, usually the 25$ contact cooler will match TRUE temps but COGAGE TRUE Spirit is decent price so i might check that one out next time, thnx for the links!

The strue spirit is a hot little direct touch cooler that trounces lots of the big guys, but is also doesn't look as nice or have that quality feel the true has. Cogage is actually an offshoot/sub-section of thermaltake.

Anyways, I always wanted the TRUE, but never had one. Ialso hate the look of the venomous x, and the big noctua coolers (they take up too much room). Also the True is pretty quite.

Uh wouldn't any heatsink be "direct touch?" If you meant "heatpipe direct touch," then no, the TRUE Spirit is not HDT just like the TRUE and Ven-X aren't.
