Help! Low 3D Mark 2006 score!

Hi there, I recently bought a system with the following specs:
- AMD Phenom II X4 955BE 3.2 GHZ
- Gigabyte Geforce GTX 460 Fermi 1GB
- G.Skill 2 x 2GB Ripjaw DDR3-1333 CL-7-7-7-21 timing
- Seagate Barracuda 7200.12 1 TB SATA2 drive 32MB cache

My 3dmark 2006 score is only 17672 with this breakdown:

SM2.0 - 6763
SM3.0 - 8566
CPU Score - 4908

Is there something wrong with my system that I need to look into? I would think I can get a much higher score with my system build.

Please advise what I should look into to improve my score. I had computer assembled by the store so they may not have optimized all the configurations.

Looks fine to me. http://www.overclock.net/nvidia/793276-460-3dmark-06-score-right.html He got a similar score with a q6600 @ 3.6GHz with a GTX 460 @ 800MHz

Looks fine from the rig specs. You could run vantage and push the card a little more though. But it looks fine indeed.

Dont get hung up on 3D marks scores...its a good tool to test out overclocks on your rig to see if they make a difference ,or to run to see if your clocks are stable.
but there are so many variable from one machine to another, its rarely a good indication of actual video card performance, as compared to someone else's score

if your games are playing smoothly, that's all that matters

Hi guys, I used PassMark Performance Test 7.0 benchmarks and found that my CPU and G3D scores are way underperforming comparable systems online.

My scores are:
PassMark Rating: 1671
CPU Mark: 3307
G3D: 1679
Memory: 779
Disk: 679
CD: 368

I noticed that comparable systems which score much higher than my system all use either Windows 7 64-bit or 32-bit while my system is currently running WinXP 32-bit.

Does the OS I use affect the benchmark performance by a lot? I mean does WinXP not take full advantage of my system specs?

I understand that gaming is more important but since it's a new system for me, I would like to make sure it's running optimally in terms of benchmarks before I forget about benchmarks and just focus on gaming

Well, for one, XP doesn't support DirectX 10 or 11.

And by running a 32-bit Windows OS, you are limiting your available RAM to a max of probably less then 3GB due to your video card being 1GB.

32-bit Windows available RAM is: 4GB - video card RAM - some other reserved memory space.
