help installing cheats Half life 2

Does anyone know how to install cheats in to Half life 2? I use ~ this key to access them and nothing happens. i have used all combos of alt, delete. I am a bit perplexed. i cannot open the console. Help.
 
You gotta go to advanced controls options and check the open console with ~. Then after that...you can type some commands, I'm sure you can find them online. There's no need to install anything.
 
And don't forget to type sv_cheats 1 when you open the console. Then after that you can enter the cheat codes. I could be wrong...
 
depends on what you consider a cheat, and what your current position is in the game...If you've finished the game, and you're just looking to get a little bit of replay value out of it, I see no problem with trying out a few of the cheat codes to see what they do.

If, however, you are attempting to use cheat codes to finish the game, well...that's just sick...
 
I have already finished the game. Last night i figured out the advanced key option. Now I can do so many extra cool things with the game.
 
I do agree that using cheats initially in a game to be able to finish it is stupid ..why buy the game then?

..but it can give reply value if already finished (as stated) .

I did have to use a cheat once in the old game "Rune" as a certain door that was supposed to be triggered open after cleaning out a village of bad guys didn't open. I wandered around for hours trying to figure out how to get the door open ..read online tutorials and all that to no avail .. had to use a no_clip type cheat and go thru the door of which more bad guys were waiting on the other side .. turned the cheat off and then finished the game without issue.

went thru and played the game again sometime later without issue thru that particular spot .. door opened just fine then.
 
Rune and the magical unopening door me and my 2 friends had that same error no matter what we did it never opened one friend even restarted from the beginning and it still didnt open when he got there.
 
yes, cheating in any game is sad. type kill in console thats the best cheat, all weapons and noclip.

I agree. I happen to side with the others that said that after finishing the game, cheats are fun. But that's me. Either way, I don't care what he does.
 
I too agree with cheats after you beat the game the right way = fun.
 
get the cheat that you put in at the start....takes you directly to the end of the game and says you win. no playing needed :rolleyes:
 
I have a question about HL2 and cheats. If you give yourself all items at the start it seems like that makes it impossible to progress, because if you already have the HEV suit, for example, you cannot pick it up when you are supposed to no matter what you do. If you don't pick up the suit, then the game does not progress. Is there a mod or something for this? I have already beat HL2 normally and just want to play through with all items right from the start. (It's awesome to blow away Combine soldiers with the rocket launcher in the train station where you normally can't even fight. :D )
 
I dont know about the HEV part but try the Blue Grav Gun cheat just dont use it on the vehicles it crashes the game.
