Help installing case fans

I have some fans for my case but it does not seem to keep my cpu very cool although the mobo temp hovers at around 26-27c

I have 3 fans and 1 system exhaust blower. 1 fan in front and 1 fan on the side blowing in. The fan at the back blows out. My PSU has a fan sucking in from inside the case and blowing out from outside the case.

Can anyone advise if this config can be improved?

My case can accept:
2 front fans
2 back fans
1 side fan

In these warm summer days, my idle temp on the 3200+ XP is creeping up to 50c.

Trying to keep your cpu cool? It'll get warm all by itself. :) A typo I assume.

Several variations for PSU fans. Sounds like yours should be taking air from inside your case, blowing it through the PSU itself and then blowing the hotter air out the back. This is a typical setup. If for some reason the PSU is exhausting hot air into the case then that is bad and you need to reconfigure somehow.


It does sound like your setup is fairly typical and 50 is getting warming but not dangerous. What kinda heat sink you running? If it is stock then a replacement would be very helpful.

You might go ahead and install the extra intake in the front available to you. This will help a little. I would think another exhaust fans at the top of your case would be very helpful but that may require a mod to your case.

Doing some guessing here, I would say best changes to make would be
1) relpace stock HS if that is what you're using
2) exhaust fan in top of case
3) additional intake at bottom front.
 
If you want to keep you case cool, you need more exhaust fans than intake fans. This creates negative air pressure inside your case, which increases overall flowthru. Basically, if you have too many intake fans, hot air builds up inside your case and heats up everything. Make fans near the ground intake fans (cool air descends) and make rear/top fans exhaust. Basically you should have 1 more exhaust fan than you have intake fans. That'll keep air moving briskly through your case and keep things cooler.

And remember that your PSU fan should be an exhaust fan, so take that into consideration too.

Yes, I wanted to cool the cpu, not make it warmer, lol!
Yes, the PSU fan intakes from the inside and blows it out outside.

My HSF is an Akasa Carnival. Friend of mine with the same fan and cpu gets about 40c idle. Mine usually idles at around 44-45, but current hot UK weather is taking its toll. I guess I will try to turn one of the intake fans around. Modding the case will be too much for me. So, shall I turn the side fan around? Remember, I get a very respectable 26-27c mobo temperature with my current setup.
 
my two questions for you
what cpu you running? whats the temp in your house?
ok, you should drill a fan hole on the top of the case(it should be between the power supply and the drives, there an open space) heat rises right? and when you put an outtake fan on the top of the case you should be able to get the hot air out pretty nicely. for my fan set up i put 2 intake fans in the front, one on the side, two outtake fans on the back, the powersupply has dual fans and one of them sucks out air from the case and the other fan sucks out all the air from the psu and the air pulled in, and i drilled a 80 mm fan on the top of the case as an outtake vent
