-i uninstalled my old drivers
-reboot comp on safemode
-window screen popped up(new hardware nVidia Geforce 6600 gt)
-i clicked ok...and proceeded installing the graphics card by puttin in my installation CD (XFX Instalation CD)
- i got a screen saying Windows XP couldnt find (nv4_mini) and couldnt install
-so i was asked to browze and find the file..i browed the CD clickin on Drivers Clicking on Windowz xp..cause i have xp..and found the file ..and proceeded installing
-after installing finished..monitor screen turned black saying (out of frequency) comp is still on but cant SEE anything on Monitor..
-i tryed it again and samething happend...
wuts going on??
not to mention i have a UT nf3 motherboard

what kinda monitier you got there skipper? trust me, your 6600gt is not incompatible with your motherboard.

go ahead and unistall the driver in safe mode, then boot into normal windows without any vga driver installed, or if you can adjust monitior setting in safe mode adjust it to its native resolution and a refresh rate of 70mhz. If you monitior has a driver, couldn't hurt to install that.

I also get the feeling you might have screwed up the driver installation.

Unistall the video driver, boot into normal windows (ignore all the new hardware found stuff, don;t even worry about it, your computer will run just fine for now without the driver)

go to www.nvidia.com

download the drivers for a geforce card on windows xp,

run that program, reboot

done.

after unistalling video driver. its automatic after turning off ur comp that ur computer will go into safemode...i cant really see anything...windows use 6 colors

your computer should run just fine a 640x480 with 256 colors in windows without a video driver, i get the feeling you screwed something else up. Is this a new build or a upgrade?

my friend put my computer together its a new build. he used a very old grafic card( dont know the name of it) so i could use the monitor to install windows. I didn’t have the GEforce 6600GT at the moment it was waiting for Shipping..so my friend installed windows Xp Pro using the old GC...and everything went smooth. when my 6600 Gt came home i took out the old Graphics card...and installed my new Geforce 6600 GT..when i turned the computer on..the screen becomes very blurry giving me crazy Colors looks like its just using 6 colors(safe mode)....the Lanparty nf3 screen came up..then after about 2 mins of waiting ..it would eventually get onto windows(with very bad Coloring)..i put the XFX cd in and tryed to install the driver..at about 1/2 way of installing screenturns black (out of frequency) nothing seems to appear so i turned off comp..and turned it back on and samething happend drivers isnt installed everything started over screen is still very bad coloring .....i tryed rebooting the comp with the graficcard in...samething happend..i got a screen in the middle of installing saying windowz xp cant install geforce 6600 Gt and it was recommending not to proceed.

so the colors go nuts before the lanparty nf3 screen comes up?

did you plug in any power cords that might need to go to the card?

yes it goes nuts..with black and white with squally lines just like how ur tv looks like when ur on a bad channel

if the screen gives you problems before the loading windows XP screen its not the driver or anything like that. Sounds like you may have a bad card, or it isn't getting the power it needs.

you said the screen is corrupt during the boot screen correct? the "lanparty UT3" screen?

you're probably underpowered. how much amperage you got on the 12v rail

also, i have an xfx 6800gt. soemtimes my monitor on the dvi port gives me troubles. turning the monitor off and back on fixes the problem interestingly enough

edit: mitch, that's lanparty nf3-ut ;)

sorry :p

i gotta think its a power issue, at first i thought he might have a old monitior that couldnt support whatever refresh rate, but if its corrupt on the boot screen its not a driver issue thats for sure.

well it's curious that it worked.. and now it doesn't. at all.

try unplugging the psu, taking out the battery and clearing the bios. that fixes any hardware setting related problems i ever have.

i dont get wat u mean by
how much amperage you got on the 12v rail
isnt 350 watts powersupply enough for geforce 6600gt?
ive tryed doing that it says out of frequency again

do a quick test, unplug the power cable from the hard drive, and boot and tell us if you have a perfectly normal boot screen or if it looks like a TV channel all fuzzed up.

look at the side of the PSU. there should be a sticker with a table on it.
in that table lists the amount of amperage each rail is capable of doing. if the 12v rail is less than 16-18a, i'd be slightly concerned.

ok so u mean i hafto put my graphics card back on.then unplug my western digital hard drive and see if the screen is good?

what do you mean back on? Install the card, plug the power cable from the PSU into the card, unplug hte hard drive and see if you get a pretty boot screen of if its all "fuzzy" as you described earlier. Also, do check your 12v rail, its good info to know.

its says Voltage
115/230 V

+ 3.3 +5 +12

28 A 40A 18A

i mean put the 6600 GT back on
cause rite now im using the old graphics card that was used before and the colors are fine

yeah, only way to find out is to use it right? Also, set your screen res at 640x480 and refresh rate to 60hz before installing the new card.

make sure you got that power cable from the psu pluged into the card ( i seen something kinda like this with a 9700pro and all it turned out to be was the power cable wasnt plugged in)

do u think i should try switching the psu plug from the harddrive to the video card and back?

what i'm trying to figure out is if your card is bad, by unplugging the hard drive, windows is out of the equation, if you still get a corrupt looking boot screen, we know its either a bad card, or the card isn't getting power for some reason. If its a good looking boot screen, we know we have to configure windows some how. So just get the card plugged in and unplug the hard drive, shouldn;t matter actual plug is used.

mitch, the computer doesn't touch the drivers until windows loads. if he gets corruption in the bios.. it's definitly a card or monitor issue. since he tried another card that worked, that narrows it down to a card issue.

the question is why?

yeah i know its a card issue, but i'd like verfication the card is booting bad, cause he says its displays corruption on the boot screen, but then he says he's in windows browsing the CD for driver files......................i think he needs to go really slowly and see if the card can even do a clean boot, without trying to load windows. I can't help but think its something simple, like the power plug wasn;t firmly plugged in or the card wasn't 100% seated.

ok i did what u said...im sure the plugs are all the way in...ok so i took out the pluge from the harddrive ... turned on comp..and the Screen is still Crazy

:( begining to sound like you just got a bad card, i was hoping yo'd see it good boot screen and we'd begin the windows configuration, but if its a crazy screen without the hard drive plugged in you know it has nothing to do with drivers or anything. You might have to RMA it.

i think so too Thank you Mr.Mitch i think i should return it or sell it on Ebay Lol do u recommend any cards i should buy now..or stick with a 6600 GT
i have a bugget of $200-250

definetly return it. Stick with the 6600gt, its a great card. Get your friend over there tomorrow and both you attack it.You could even try the card in his computer. Also, call up XFX and talk to thier tech support. They make a living trouble shooting XFX hardware and should know everything you can try to make it work. If not, i'm afriad your gonna be returning it. :(

gotcha :)

and i don't know what good selling a bad card on ebay would do you. you definitly won't get more than 25-50 for it.
do as mitch says and RMA it to wherever you purchased it from, and wait for a new one. it should work. just be careful with those drivers :D

personally, I would try the card in a different computer before sending it back.
