Help, I'm building a quite PC

Hi,

I'm building a quite PC and I need to know what PSU (if possible with nicely organize cables, not to many of them), CPU Cooler, VGA Cooler, Thermal Paste and Case you guys are recommending. Price is not an issue, but size is somewhat (6 /10) of an issue. Thanx

Depending on your power reauirements, for the PSU you can use any of:
- Seasonic S12 430W
- Corsair VX450W
- Corsair HX520W
- Corsair HX620W

All are quiet, and i think the 520 and 620 are modular.


For the CPU cooler, the Scythe Ninja is popular, but fairly big. On my AM2 i use an Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro. It is silent until it speeds up a bit.


Any of the Antec cases are very good as far as quietness goes.


As for the VGA cooler, i dont use one as my graphics card is already passively cooled.

PSU (any of the corsair ones would be fine, you might want to go for the modular ones)
CPU cooler (thermalright ultra extreme however it might be too big, so the scythe ninja is another option)
GPU cooler depends on the fan you use (obviously) [H] recommends the Thermalright HR-03 GT. However they did not get to test the Accelero S1, which a lot of this people on the forum recommend (it's also much cheaper and smaller than the HR-03 GT).

As for thermal paste, I don't think there's one that stands above the rest.

Since Scythe Ninja and similar CPU coolers are pretty big and half a kilogram heavy, do I have to position my case horizontally so that the CPU cooler is vertical or it doesn't matter?

the bigger the coolers the bigger the fans the quieter the system. if its a moderate GPU you could probably get away with passive cooling.

these days, its true, the difference between thermal pastes is never more then 2C, but arctic silver is the old stand by.

as for the psu, Seasonic (who builds Corsairs PSUs) has made a name for themselves as being the king of silent. I'm writing this post on a p4 northwood with onboard graphics and a seasonic HB 380W. This unit is honestly one of the quietest psus I've ever worked with.

Actually, its more like this: Larger fans don't have to spin as fast to create the same air movement as smaller fans. Lower RPMs, combined with good quality control and well lubricated componants, can lead to much quieter fans.
