Hello ya'll first time posting here. New to your board, but not to the scene. I wish I could put this in each and everybodies hands. I am hopeing it is a power supply for a server. where I found it @ just got a large shipment of stuff that was bound for Sun Microsystems. Hopefully with this image and you guys we can decide weather or not 35 bucks is worth paying to experiment with it.

as far as I can tell this part does not belong in a computer. Computer components dont' have bus fuses on them like that.
 
you n00bs. that's a positronic flux capacitor or a master furby control device. never could tell the two apart
 
kinda resembles a board for a UPS, either way, there are a lot of caps on that thing,

10 to 1 says you have no idea what you are talking about.
 
If it is from a computer it is certainly not anything standard. Look at all the connectors down the left side of it. It looks like it is from a copier or something large like that. If you are going to experiment with it then BE CAREFUL. It looks like it could potentially be lethal if you touch the right spot.
 
It does look like a power supply, but for what I couldn't tell you. Giveaways: the toroidial amplifiers, the large capacitors, fuses, and the large resistors, - you will find that basic design in power supplies for different things, such as amplifiers, PSU's for large appliances...
BTW, if anyone can decode ( :rolleyes: ) french, that may help - I think it is French (i think) writing at the top right of the board - that may shed some light on it.
 
35 bucks wasted unless you can resell it. It might give you some useful rail voltages for experimenting ,but so can old useless photocopiers, tv's etc that have been junked.

it looks like a green board with a few capacitors soldered to it

Yep. (The toridial windings aren't "amplifiers" but they are inductors, used in switching power supplies.) My guess is that this is a rather sophisticated power supply built for a specific application.....what that is requires more info..... :cool:

Unless I had the datasheets on this thing, or knew exactly what it was and needed one, I wouldn't give you $35.00 for it......

If it is made for use in france don't try to plug it in or pop! Try a google search for some of the different things on the board. Manufacturers usually put their name or product name in bold on the board. Try looking for PKG-1595.

And how about typing the text in french so we can see it? There is some glare on the board and its sideways so its not readable.
 
Toroidal transformer* and toroidal inductors. Only one of the transformers as far as I can tell from the picture. Whatever this is, you can be sure its for a high power application.The 1-alot ratio on the transformer, as well as the large caps are a giveaway. Almost seems like it would be used for a medium powered antenna application. Its much too small for anything industrial.....
 
it sorta looks like a psu for an old school projection tv. WAIT WAIT WAIT I KNOW WHAT IT IS!!!! ITSA MIND CONTROL DEVICE MADE FOR TAKING OVER THE WORLD!!!!
 
wait a second... ive seen something like that, that looks very similar. Its a solid state guitar amplifier main board, it looks similar to 1 i was survicing last mounth for a friend. its ither for a bass amp or a guitar amp. both have similar capasitors and resistors.

how bout some closups of the french text in the upper left?
or just copy what it says for us.
its very hard to read with the glare/blur but it looks like some kinda warning.

theres alot of huge caps on that thing, if your gonna mess with it i hope you know what your doing....

The BS in the post or the BS picture? The pic? No fucking clue. I'll admit I can't identify X piece of obscure equipment. But my BS? Flux capacitor? made up piece of sci-fi futuristic sounding hardware. Master Furby Controll device? Made up that "jewel" by myself.

It says "to not compromise protection for risk of fires, replace the fuse with the same type and minimum rating".

But my best grade in French was a C-minus.
