Okay so I was OCing a little and now even if I try and go into safe mode I see a blue screen, after the black loading screen in XP. So whats going on? Can I repair this or am I going to have to reinstall XP? Which I hope not.
In recovery I get:
C:\Windows
Which instalation would you like to log onto? So what to I type to repair or logon or whater?

Did that, Now I'm stuck at the Windows repair

When you boot the WinXP cd, instead of pressing 'R' to "Repair" your installation, press enter and go to the installation screen where it has you do the disk partitioning.

Usually, if your WinXP install is still good, it should recognize your previous install and allow you to press enter to get into the config for that installation. From there, you should see an option to press 'R' again to do a pseudo reinstall that basically re does the boot sector and all important windows files. This usually works for me when my version of windows goes kaboom.

If you cant get this option, when you see the screen to log onto a windows installation like you have said above, I believe you can press '1' and press the Enter key. From there you get a silly little dos like prompt where you can enter commands. Try entering "fixboot" or something like that (press /? to get all the commands) and see what happens.

I hope this helps you.

Good luck

those IMO are hard to fix problems
you can try and fix windows.
also if you don't want to lose the data on the drives you CAN install XP without formating your drive
when you do that, all it will do is delete windows and reinstall it so you won't lose data
btw what kinda HD you got
i had a prob kinda like that. i oced and it booted but when i went to reboot. it died on me. i figured out that my HD was also keeping me from ocing to 200FSB or more. it would crash and burn. so possibly MAYBE your HD that kept you from a good oc.

160 Gig Maxtor. Well I repaired it and when it goes to windows my comp still restarts so I am going to do what you said and reinstal :/ lets hope it works. And yeah I think it's keeping me from OCing higher since it doesn't seem to like 190fsb+

When I'm picking the partician instead of NTFS or anything do I pick: Choose Leave the current filesystem instact<no change> ?

K well...

With Windows XP on a failed boot it gives you options. Just choose C:\Windows as your installation and hit enter, and Windows will boot.

Not so hard, was it? :p

Hello,

Boot of the Windows XP CD and press "R" for repair when prompted. When it brings up the recovery console chose your windows installiation ( Usually 1 ) then try the following commands.

chkdsk /r

and or

fixmbr

I had a machine do the same thing to me and chkdsk /r seemed to do the trick for me. Good luck!

Trying this now. What but if this doesn't work and I reinstal windows and want to keep my old files do I select Leave the current filesystem intact?

Hello,

Yeah keep the file system intact. If your really worried about your data I would just take the drive out and put it into another machine to transfer data IMHO. Hope it works out for you. Lets us know how you make out.

Cheers,

Zachary

If I can't access the data right now why would I be able to on another machine?

As long as you aren't booting from the messed-up Windows install, another system'll be able to read the stuff on the drive.

yes leave at current
that will only DELETE windows and not format your drive

thanks guys yeah it was wierd doing it that way since everything was gone from my documents and such but files were still there. This was such a pain in the ass if I start talking about OCing again kick me in the head does it matter btw if I run at 12.5x177 or 12x184 I'm trying to stay away from higher fsb.
