Help!!!..Having problems overclocking!!!

As the title says i am having problems overclocking my A64

It is a A64 3200 Winchester on a ABIT AV8 with Corsair XMS XLL PC3200...ram timmings for it are 2-2-2-5-T1

Now i have oced to 250fsb with my ram at 333 with my HTTx4

now when i goto HTTx3 and start going higher on the FSB anything past 260fsb doesn't work or is corrupt...i have also make my timmings more lax at about anything and everything.

is there somthing i am doing wrong? are there any beta bios's or overclocking bios's for this board like the NF7-S 2.0?

would like some help...i have also read all the threads i could on A64 ocing...i just can't seem to get it right....some help would be great...thnx.

Corsair's XL uses TCCD, which doesn't react to extra voltage. At 2.6V (IIRC), TCCD runs DDR500 with timings of 2.5-3-3-7 by design.
 
Just a random thought, but try dropping your HTT to 2.5x or even 2x. Also, what is your CPU's multiplier? It could be that your CPU has topped out, in which case dropping its multiplier .5x or 1x could help you get your "FSB" higher.

good point, do what he said. making your HTT to 2.5 or even 2 is really low.

when did you get your winchester, you may just have a bad week :( whats the steppings on it?

The steppings on my winchester i donno...all i can say is i bought it when they first came out...so it was a OEM one

Now i did not know about Corsairs fit with higher voltages...i usally put the voltages for ram to 2.7 or either 2.8 for more clocking stability.

My multi is at x9 and my HTT is at 4

now when i try for higher FSB's like around 280 to 300 i lower my HTT to 3 and bring my DDR to 333 or 266. and have my mutli at 9.

Now if i do get a boot and it goes into windows. the Multi drops to 5x300. i donno if that is a bug with the board or what. it's wacked. anyways
i put my NB voltage up as to i think 1.65v and my hypertransport to 1.35v and still can't get stable Oc's like some of you guys said i might have hit the wall...but imo this is unaccaptable :D

So right now i sit at 250x10 HTTx4 with vcore at 1.6v, Ram at 2.7v, NB at 1.60v and hyper at 1.30v

i can go lower if i want. but i was to lazy and tired last night to change them back to what i had them in the begining. :D :D :D
 
damn i dunno if your ram could handle 280-300 fsb.

anyways try finding out the steppings it may answer ur questions

the thing is the ram is not doing a 1:1 with the cpu
the ram would be at somthing like 200 or 266 or 333...it's more like the ram would be doing 5/6
 
Here's a dumb question: it says in your sig that you're using XMS 3200LL, but you said in your initial post that your using "XLL". I assumed you were using XL, which is TCCD based, but after reading your sig I think I was mistaken- you probably are using LL, which is completely different. Could you clarify this? I understand it was probably just a typo, but that one letter makes a HUGE difference.
 
I get the idea that you are running your ram really slow, but maybe I'm just loopy...

When you say you are running your ram at 333 and 266,

Do you mean DDR333 and DDR266 (when you boot it should say something like that) or DDR666 and DDR533?

If you are running at DDR333 you're going about this all wron.g

Thats old ram i have in my other machine
this is a A64 box


As for you Roguer i have settings in my bios for DDR200 DDR266 DDR333 and DDR400

if i do 250FSB with DDR400 i will not boot. if i do DDR333 i will boot...like i said i don't fully understand the ocing of a A64

I have a ABIT AV8 if that helps at all...i will see if i can find a manual for that board.

Dammit, I'll have to do this off the top of my head.
250*10=2500MHz
RAM=200 means 1:1 ratio, RAM is also running 250MHZ- DDR500, should be set for 2.5-3-3-7. If you are unsure whether it will work, set command rate to 2T. We will adjust this back later.
RAM=166 means 5:6 ratio, RAM is running 10/(5/6)=12, 2500/12=208.33MHz, or DDR417.

Give these two a shot, see what happens.

well looks like i am getting a new board....NF3 NEO2 here i come

this Abit AV8 is a good board...just sucks with Ocing it seems
i have TCCD ram and a winchester core so i donno...i think i am hitting boards limit
inless someone knows of ANY modding for the board...or bios mods
 
Don't assume it's the board- Winchester cores don't all overclock well. In fact, some of their are downright crap! I don't remember which weeks are which, but Winchester doesn't always mean a great OC!
 
still doesn't matter

i getting a new board and chip anyways cause i am giving my other box a upgrade

so oh well...i waiting till the venice cores come out for my main box :D
