heres my specs.

this pc is about 5 years old e-machine.

1.3 celeron
512 sd ram
40hd
about 220 power supply
onboard video, upgarded to ati diamond 9250 pci 256mb.

this is a very loud pc, if everything powers up the way it is, it should be very loud.
the problem is lately im having problems starting up the computer, when i hit the power button, it didnt light up, the only light that came on is the hd orange light blanks ever so often. then after about 10-15mins the green light finally came on, and it still didnt log itself into windows, i needed to manually push the power button again inorder for everything to boot properly.


so..what do you think the problem is, hardward problem ,software, or virus?
 
hardware! welcome to pc repair 101. get that thing open and check things but I sense a tone that says your new to things. best to ask a computer friend to have a peek? sorry I dont mean to offend but this "can" be much. sound like a good cleaning is needed then check bios settings and temperatures. if that all checks out, report back. g'luk

new to things? nah,im no grandma, i could fix most if not all pc problems, i just need some feedback as i still couldn't find what exactly the problem is.

im speculating it's the power supply thats about to dead out.
 
e-machine? its the psu and/or the mobo. hopefully the psu didnt kill anything, but its common for it to kill the mobo in e-machines.

how do you know this is common for e-machines? i just took a look at the power supply and the fan is not spending.

I've repaired quite a few of them, and have also researched other emachine problems online.
