I had this problem for awhile now, but I thought I had fixed it. Anyway I'm using a Maxtor diamondmax 10 80gig hardrive :)( ) and it had been running good for two years. But a month ago it started becoming ridiculously slow, windows would take literally 10 mins to boot up. I tried a system restore and it failed. Did a disk check and showed nothing but it took freaking two days to complete!. Then I reformatted the disk and reinstalled and windows and everything seems good again for two weeks. But starting from yesterday I noticed it started crapping out again and becoming super slow. I ran HDTune and it told me my harddrive transfer rate is only 1.8mb/s read and 1.8mb/s write .... Whereas before it was in the 60's... I noticed this happened after I downloaded about 5 gigs worth of files off bittotrent over night. Is this problem specific with maxtor and is there a document fix? I really don't want to reformat everything again...

I used to have a problem with windows setting my harddrives to pio instead of dma randomly.

In device manager under ide\atapi controllers\Primary ide channel\right click properties\advanced settings and see if its in pio instead of dma if so just uninstall it and reboot if thats the problem it should be fixed once you reboot.

No problem. Just remember how to fix it because it might happen again. I think it was a bios update that fixed it for me but im not sure since I dont know what was causing it.
