I'm looking for an awesome LED backlit gaming display (24" or above), and has a higher resolution than 1920×1080. It seems like whenever I go into retail stores (Fry's included), they never have anything in the monitor department that goes above 1080p. Why? Where are all the 1920×1200 and above resolution screens?

Anyway, I'm looking to pick up a new monitor and figured you'd guys would know more than I would. Again, LED backlit is a must, 24" or above, and must be higher than 1920×1080. It's primary use is gaming. An IPS screen would be nifty but I'm okay with a TN panel if need be.

As it currently stands, you aren't going to find a display with a resolution of 2560x1440 (or 1600) at anything lower than 27". And at that range, displays generally run around $800. The ACD is the only one I know of that has LED backlighting.

Budget? ZR30W (2560x1600)? No, it's not LED backlit.

Unless you really care about the power savings, there is no point favouring it as NCX mentioned..

Even 1920x1200 would be nice. Anything better than 1080p.

LED backlighting is a marketing gimmick, now you know, forget it exists.

How so? I mean it looks a lot "brighter" than non-LED backlit displays. I'm not saying you're wrong or trying to argue, you're just the first person I've ever heard that LED backlighting is a gimmick. That Asus looks pretty awesome by the way.

I'd like to keep a limit of $550 (sorry NukeDukem, that HP ZR30w is way too expensive for me). Power savings isn't really a concern, I just prefer the look of LED backlighting (although apparently it's a gimmick).

LED displays aren't any brighter, again this is just marketing. There are a ton of CCFL displays that can go over 400cdm/2, most LED displays cap around 250cdm/2 (as do CCFL) except for the Apple Cinema Display.

High brightness is a bad thing, especially with IPS panels, unless you like burning your eyes out and having black rendered as grey. The higher the brightness the higher the black level, leaving any sort of dark scene looking very washed out, lifeless and grey looking.

The higher the brightness also means that backlight bleeding and screen uniformity issues will also be far more obvious, which most displays come with these days.

Look at the LG link in my sig, it is set to 120cdm/2 luminance which is prime for day/night useage and giving the best contrast ratio.

650:1 contrast ratio is kinda :( though

And as it seems it's basically a u2410, I'm kind of surprised you're recommending it as from what I remember when I was looking for a new monitor a few months ago you didn't speak too highly of the 2410

Contrast doesn't get any better on the non E-IPS panels or any 1200p display though, so might as well pick the one with the least amount of AG coating and best gaming performance if one has to have a 1200p display.
