Hi guys, I need some help with my rig... I can turn it on, but I can't get any video or any pre-startup beeps, it just kinda sits there with a "No video input" on the screen.

I just started from sctrach only the HD's and the ATI 9600 connected to see if I didn't plug something in right... but still I'm getting nothing..

If you guys have any sort of info that could help, I would appreciate it. Thanks!

Try re-seating all the cards and the RAM. If that doesn't work, try putting a different video card in, and see if it works. Also see if you can try it in a different computer. If the your card works in a different system and the different video card in your system doesn't work, then the mobo may be at fault. But the lack of startup beeps means that it could be the mobo..... what mobo is it?

The mobo is an IC7-G, the lights on the mobo light up, if that means anything... (sorry for the ignorance, I'm learning the hard way) I'll try them RAM suggestion, unfortunately I don't have another vid card to try... thanks a lot...

jsut in case any more info might help, I'm running a P4 2.6 ... 2 sticks of 512 MB Corsair... 2 HD's one's a Western Digital, and the other one is a Seagate barracuda...

Funny because I was just trying to organize the case better so I could get water cooling and get into some OCing...maybe this is a sign that I shouldn't..hehe

Try taking one stick out, and trying it, and then swapping the sticks. It may just be the mobo, but it could be the RAM.
It's okay being a newbie, i was once. :)

OK, so I tried taking the sticks out, trying separate ones, switching and trying them both, (they're in DIMM's 1 and 3) so I tried swithing them to 2 and 4 as well, that didn't work...

So...I guess I'm looking at either a broken mobo, or a vid card huh? Is there any way I can test one or the other to rule one out? Are those the only two things that could cause it not to boot up at all..?

thanks for all the help and the understanding so far:D

Cheers...

take out all mem and video card and see if you get beep codes (make sure the speaker is hooked up)...if you get no beep codes then you probably have a bad mobo or proc, if you do get beep codes look them up and make sure you're getting ram failure, then stick your ram in and see if you get beep codes for missing video. Some mobo's do and some don't beep for missing processor so you could try taking out the processor with the mem and video and see if it beeps but you'd have to look up and make sure you have a beep code for missing processor before that would tell you anything.

RAM and vid card out... processor in, no beeps.... gonna try taking everything out...but i have a feeling i'm still not gonna get any beeps... Would that mean the motherboard's gone??

bad mobo would be my conclusion...no beep codes with missing mem and vid card...check your mobo's documentation and see if they have some other means of delivering error codes (led's for instance) also make sure your pc speaker is hooked up, can't always rely on those ones built onto the mobo, if you have one that is.

hehe, while in the process of taking the processor out...everything came off...processor too... in fact I can't get the processor of the heatsink... by the way the heatsink and the fan is stock.

Now I seriously need some help...i don't want to mess anything else up...even though it seems a lot is already messed up... Any advice for me?? Sorry about the all the questions guys... and thanks again for all the help.

Was the fan on the heatsink plugged and stuff? insta-overheating can cause the computer not to post as well...had that issue when my pump's power inverter fried.

The heatsink was probably mounted with an adhesive thermal pad...no reason to separate them really unless you wanna oc, due to their heat spreaders p4's don't really have a known issue with processors being ruined by heatsinks like amd's do . There is a possibility that it was mounted with the protective plastic some heatsink makers put over their thermal pads on the bottom of their heatsinks in which case your processor wouldn't be cooled enough cause another insta-overheating situation, i've never owned a p4 so i dunno if they put that protective plastic on thier heatsinks. The only way to sperate them is to use a little muscle and a flat head screw driver...if you screw up your proc don't blame me though :p...also have some new thermal compound or pads since once you seperate a thermal pad from it's intended object to cool you can't reuse them effectivly.

i dunno if anyone said this or if this even applies

but did you plug the extra molex connector into the 9600?

im not even sure if there is one but check that

well if he got no post error indicators when he took the mem and vid card out then then it's safe to rule out the video card and mem as the problem...well the sole problem anyways

OK, looks like i'm gonna have to try the "caveman" approach to taking the processor off, I'm worried about the fact that maybe because the lock on the processor was down, that i might have destroyed the proc. Looks like I have A LOT to learn...looks like it might be an expensive learning process though...:(

So i guess I'm gonna rule out the vid card, and hopefully if the processor's ok, looks like I'll need a new mobo. Anybody have any issues with the IC7-G?

wiper: Everything was off,

omicron: Which jumpers should I check? just for reference, I didn't change any of them before this whole mess started...

xbreaka: The PSU is fine, all the fans power on fine, as do the HD's and the LED's on the mobo.

Best of luck to you, i hope the processor is okay and you can get a new mobo. :)

well, I wanted to get a little more info about why these things happen... so I went over to the abit-usa forums...turns out abit motherboards have a bit of a sensitivity issue with the DIMMs. So before I bought a brand new mobo, I decided to give it a few more tries resetting the RAM... the last one of my three tries did the trick...and problem solved... (my wallet feels relieved).

I know I sound like a broken record right about now but I really appreciate you guys taking time to help a new guy out, I realize a lot of the learning has to come from personal experience and so on, but it's good to know that when someone's stuck, there are always people out there willing to help... great forum... Cheers!:D
