I know that the SMP client expired a few weeks ago. I still have some machines running the old "Expired" SMP. I am not happy with the 6.22 client and I would like to try the refreshed-but-old SMP client again on my expired boxen that are not running 6.22. I can't seem to find the location or thread for the older SMP. Can I just copy the .exe into my old folder? I have one WU that finished and now it is hung up. I think the WU will "send" to Stanford if I can fix the .exe expiration issue. Thanks. :)

Thanks!

Got it running on one older expired boxen. Now I gotta get it going on two other boxen.

all three boxen with the expired smp are now running the new 5.91 .exe with the expiration of sometime in November.

Thanks. I did not lose any progress, but one client did not return a completed WU. Send all did not help. Oh well!

Now I have to move a GPU from an older boxen to my kid's new quad gaming machine.

Hopefully Stanford will be able to release a better client before November time frame. In Linux, the client seems stable and eay to install. I don't know why the Windows version isn't the same.

Hopefully it won't be long for the improved windows SMP client. It would be nice to get some A2 level performance on windows and be able to drop the 2nd instance of SMP on a quad. I know they don't prefer we do that but it just leaves to many work units on the table if we don't.

The problem is due to the MPI layer, which is written initially for linux (that explain why it's stable) and ported to Windows but not without some issues. As long as the MPI issues remain, it will not improve. That's why the DEINO MPI is being tried but with a more complicated setup, which is unfortunate.

They only have 2 options : wait till the MPI layer improve or they rewrite the client/core to get rid of MPI and replace it with another way to do parallelism.
