help finding small(er) power supply

Does anyone know where I can find a powersupply that is less than about 5.5inches wide? I need the powersupply to be on its side with the fan at the bottom and the plug above it and its going to be on top of a 1/4 inch thick piece of plexi and the total height has to come in under 6 inches. right now my PUS is 5.75inches so it comes to exactly 6 which is a no go. Also it needs to be around 300W.

Run the psu caseless! Just unplug it when working on it. (well you should anyways but, you never know)
 
MiniITX PSUs dont work with ATX I think, I know for a fact that ATX PSUs dont work with mITX though.
 
Well, you could try one of these Shuttle 250watt xpc power supplies (yeah, not the 300watt you wanted, but close......and really small).

Since that page pretty much sucks (but was the best I could find in 5 minutes of bouncing around Shuttle's site :( ), here's what I can tell you about the one I have.

Specs: 12v 16A 3.3v 18A 5v 19A

Connections: Standard 20-pin ATX mobo connector (very short wires, tho, and you'll likely need an extension, like this one , to get to your mobo power socket.
Square 4-pin mobo connector.....also some very short wires, you'll likely have to do some fancy soldering extension wires yourself on that one......remember, these are designed for XPC computers
SATA hard drive power connector, one, with wires ~6" long
4-pin molex connectors, 2 on one set of wires, about a foot and a half long, and a single connector on a shorter set of wires, about 8 to 10 inches long, that also has a 4-pin floppy drive power plug on it.

You can also check out this power supply, that I used on my scanner computer mod. Only 200watts, but very steady power from a really small package.

www.aaronix.com has a pretty good selection of smaller PSUs. You do realize that you will pay a premium for a small PSU that can put out that much power, don't you? Look on this page and you'll find quite a few 1U size PSUs. Some are regular 1U (about 40mm x 80mm x ~190mm), but some of them are FlexATX (shorter than regular 1U--only 150mm long), but don't put out 300W--only up to about 200.
