Help finding files

My friends computer wont go into windows; and he has files on it that he needs. I copied almost all the files but there are a couple on the desktop. THe problem is i cannot see the desktop files. How can i do this? so i can copy them.

also it always goes to the screen asking

safe mode
safemode with networking

and i go into one and when its about to load it just restarts and goes right back to that screen

had this problem with an old @ss celeron mobo at work after changing the HDD, could be the HDD or the mobo

does the unit ask for a password upon startup, if so try the password "pulsar"

it may work, there is another password I believe

Yet another example of when Ghost is the answer. Ghost would have let you grab an image of the entire drive, and you could have extracted any files you needed from there.

The desktop is usually found at:

C:\Documents and Settings\username\Desktop

But this is for XP....you never mentioned what OS your working on.

srry for not specifying the operating system which is xp; but i found the files in a hidden folder;
